Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional is a diversified industrial group with integrated operations across steel, mining, cement, logistics and energy in Brazil and abroad.
The company generates revenue by producing and selling steel products such as flat and long steel, tin mill and galvanized steel, iron ore, cement, logistics services and electricity, serving domestic and international markets.
The company operates through the following segments: steel, mining, cement, logistics, and energy.
• Steel: The segment operates an integrated steelworks at Presidente Vargas in Volta Redonda, produces slabs, hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized and tin mill products, and runs overseas facilities in Portugal (Lusosider) and Germany (SWT) for flat and long steel, with a crude steel capacity of about 5.6 million tonnes per year.
• Mining: The segment extracts iron ore from the Casa de Pedra and Engenho mines in Minas Gerais, operates the TECAR bulk terminal at Itaguaí port, and also mines tin through its subsidiary ERSA, supplying iron ore to its own steel mills and exporting to global markets.
• Cement: The segment produces cement using blast furnace slag and limestone, operates plants in several Brazilian states, and has an installed capacity of approximately 17 million tonnes per year, offering products such as CP II, CP III and CP V ARI.
• Logistics: The segment provides port terminals (TECAR and TECON), holds stakes in railway operators MRS, TLSA and FTL, and runs multimodal logistics via Grupo Tora, facilitating the movement of raw materials and finished products.
• Energy: The segment generates electricity through a thermoelectric cogeneration unit at the steelworks and holds interests in hydroelectric plants such as Itá, Igarapava and others, achieving self sufficiency and selling surplus power to the grid.
Within its industries, Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional ranks as one of the largest fully integrated steel producers in Brazil and Latin America, is the second largest cement producer in the country and stands as the second largest global iron ore exporter after Australia, benefiting from vertical integration, captive raw material sources, extensive logistics infrastructure and energy self sufficiency.
The company serves steel mills, automotive manufacturers, construction companies, packaging firms and other industrial users domestically, while exporting iron ore and steel to customers in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Sector:Basic MaterialsSector rationaleThe company's dominant business lines are the production and sale of steel, iron ore, and cement, all of which are core industries within Basic Materials. A secondary sector of Industrials is justified because the company operates a substantial logistics segment providing port terminals and railway operations to move freight.Industries:+1 moreSteelBasic MaterialsPrimaryThe company is one of the largest integrated steel producers in Brazil, producing slabs, hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, and tin mill products for automotive and industrial customers.Iron OreBasic MaterialsSecondaryThe company extracts iron ore from the Casa de Pedra and Engenho mines and is a major global exporter of iron ore.CementBasic MaterialsSecondaryThe company is the second largest cement producer in Brazil, manufacturing cement products such as CP II, CP III, and CP V ARI.Classified using BQ-MICSCIK: 0001049659
