Sinovac Biotech Ltd is a fully integrated China-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the research, development, manufacturing and commercialization of vaccines for the prevention of human infectious diseases. The company has developed a comprehensive vaccine portfolio covering hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hand, foot and mouth disease caused by enterovirus 71, seasonal and pandemic influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcal disease, poliomyelitis, mumps, varicella, rabies and tetanus. Its operations span from early-stage R&D to large-scale vaccine production and global distribution, serving both domestic and international markets.
The company generates revenue primarily through the sale of its vaccines, including Healive for hepatitis A, Bilive for hepatitis A and B, Anflu and TetrAnflu for seasonal influenza, Panflu and sPanflu for pandemic influenza, Inlive for EV71-related HFMD, PnuPreve for pneumococcal disease, EraPolio for poliomyelitis, Mumps vaccine for mumps, Varicella vaccine for varicella, CoronaVac for COVID-19, and adsorbed tetanus vaccine for tetanus prevention. Revenue is derived from both the Chinese mainland private-pay market and government-funded programs, as well as international sales to over 80 countries through direct distribution and partnerships with UN agencies and foreign governments. Domestic sales accounted for 67.7% of total revenues in 2025, with the remainder coming from international markets.
The company operates through the following segments:
- Sinovac Beijing: This segment focuses on the research, development, and production of hepatitis A and B vaccines, including Healive and Bilive, as well as influenza vaccines such as Anflu and Panflu. It also manufactures the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PnuPreve). Healive, the company's first WHO-prequalified vaccine, is registered in over 30 countries and authorized for use in more than 40 countries and regions. Bilive is the only combined hepatitis A and B vaccine developed and marketed in China, designed for the private-pay market and re-registered in July 2025.
- Sinovac LS: This segment is dedicated to the development and commercialization of advanced vaccine candidates, particularly for COVID-19 and other emerging infectious diseases. It led the development of CoronaVac, which received conditional approval from the NMPA and WHO Emergency Use Listing in June 2021 and was utilized in over 70 countries during the pandemic. The segment also oversees strategic collaborations and joint ventures such as Keyvac in Turkey and SKY Biologics, which focuses on monoclonal antibody drugs. Sinovac LS holds a 59.24% equity interest following investments from Prime Success, Vivo Capital, and Sino Biopharmaceutical Limited.
- Sinovac Dalian: This segment specializes in the research, development, and manufacturing of live-attenuated vaccines, including the varicella vaccine and mumps vaccine. It operates under GMP compliance and has achieved WHO prequalification for its varicella vaccine, which was passed in the second audit in June 2025. The varicella vaccine is commercially available in 20 countries and regions and was the first Chinese varicella vaccine to receive WHO prequalification. The segment also supports the production of other live-attenuated vaccine candidates as part of the company’s broader pipeline.
- Sinovac Chengdu: Acquired through Sinovac LS in 2024, this segment focuses on the development and production of rabies vaccines and other innovative vaccine candidates. It operates under a 10-year lease agreement with Chengdu Bio-city Construction Co., Ltd. for R&D and vaccine production activities. The facility is currently preparing for GMP inspection, expected by July 2026, to support future commercialization of its rabies vaccine and other pipeline products. This segment enhances the company’s capabilities in western China and supports its global R&D footprint.
Sinovac Biotech Ltd holds a significant position in the Chinese vaccine industry as one of the leading domestic manufacturers with a diversified portfolio and international reach. It competes with large multinational corporations such as GSK, Merck, Abbott Laboratories, and Sanofi, as well as domestic state-owned enterprises like CNBG and emerging private firms including Hualan Vaccine, IMBCAMS, Pukang Biological, Kangtai Biological, and Walvax Biotechnology. Its competitive advantages stem from its integrated R&D and manufacturing capabilities, WHO prequalification for key products such as Healive, sIPV, and varicella vaccine, and its ability to offer higher quality and safety profiles relative to lower-cost domestic alternatives while remaining more affordable than comparable multinational offerings.
The company serves a diverse customer base including government immunization programs, private healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, and international procurement agencies such as UNICEF and PAHO. In China, its products are distributed through provincial bidding processes and supported by over 50 third-party agents and approximately 1,000 promotional representatives covering 2,821 district-level CDCs across 31 provinces and municipalities. Internationally, its vaccines are supplied to more than 40 countries for hepatitis A, over 20 countries for varicella, and to low- and lower-middle-income countries for sIPV through UN agencies in support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. It has also secured long-term supply agreements in Brazil and an exclusive award under Chile’s national tender for seasonal influenza vaccines covering approximately 8.3 million individuals.
