Teradyne Inc. is a global supplier of automation equipment for test and industrial applications. They manufacture and sell systems used to test semiconductors, wireless products, data storage and complex electronics systems. They serve a range of markets from consumer electronics and automation to aerospace and defense. The company’s business can be divided into four segments – Semiconductor Test, System, Test, Industrial Automation and Wireless Test. They compete with Advantest Corporation, Xcerra Corporation, Astronics, KUKA Robotics Corporation and National Instruments Corporation.
Revenue from industrial operations stood at $16.75 million in the first quarter of 2016. It showed $25.10 million in the second quarter. And $23.51 million in Q3 whereas it shot up to $98.97 million in the last quarter. Revenue increased in 2017 to $36.27 million in the first quarter. And $39.34 million in the second quarter. Q3 and Q4 showed $40.06 million and $169.94 million respectively. Revenue increased further in 2018 to $48.83 million in the first quarter. And $62.06 million in the second quarter. It showed $65.91 million in the third quarter and dropped to $75.29 million in the last quarter. Further, revenue went up to $66.10 million in the first quarter of 2019. It was $74.37 million in the second quarter. And $68.89 million in the third quarter and $88 million by the end of the year. Revenue dropped to $60.30 million in the first quarter of 2020.
Revenue from Semiconductor test systems was $340.26 million in the first quarter of 2016, $435.32 million in the second quarter, $322.02 million in the third quarter and $1.37 billion in the last quarter. Revenue increased to $355.53 million in the first quarter of 2017, $593.15 million in the second quarter, $396.88 million in the third quarter and $1.66 billion in the last quarter. In 2018 revenue increased to $373.33 million, $360.09 million in the second quarter, $417.30 million in the third quarter and $340.86million in the last quarter, Revenue then went up to $340.90 million in the first quarter of 2019, $374.90 million in the second quarter, $397.47 million in the third quarter and then increased to $439 million in the last quarter of 2019 and $484.50 million in the first quarter of 2020.
Revenue from the system test segment was $53.67million in the first quarter of 2016, $48.94 million in the second quarter, $37.03 million in the third quarter and then jumped to $189.71 million in the fourth quarter. The same decreased to $39.85 million in the first quarter of 2017, $36.73 million in the second quarter, $35.57 million in the third quarter and then increased to $192.02 million in the fourth quarter. It then increased in 2018 to $43.02 million in the first quarter, $69.86 million in the second quarter, $49.61 million in the third quarter and then dropped to $47.77 million in the last quarter. Revenue increased further in 2019 to $58.20 million in the first quarter, $73.41 million in the second quarter, $73.31 million in the third quarter and $83 million in the last quarter. The revenue then went on to $116.10 million in the first quarter of 2020.
Revenue from the wireless segment was $20.31 in the first quarter of 2016, $22.43 in the second quarter, $27.92 in the third quarter and $96.13 in the last quarter. In 2017 revenue increased to $25.27 million in the first quarter, $27.68 million in the second quarter, $30.87 million in the third quarter and $111.78 million in the last quarter. Revenue for 2018 was $22.51 million in the first quarter, $35.21 million in the second quarter, $34.30 million in the third quarter and $34.03 million in the last quarter. In 2019 revenue increased to $29 million in the first quarter, $41.24 million in the second quarter, $42.26 million in the third quarter and $45 million by the end of the year.
