The Cloud and Cognitive Software business segment consists of Cognitive Applications, Cloud & Data Platforms and Transaction Processing Platforms as the major products. All these products reported a positive change in revenue for the second quarter of 2019 as compared to the same period in 2018. Cognitive Applications includes software addressing vertical and domain-specific solutions in areas such as health, IOT solutions, with AI as the medium.
The Global Business Services business segments comprises of Consulting, Global Process Services and Application Management as the major products. All these products reported a revenue growth except for Application Management which reported a 3.1% decline in revenue. Growth was primarily driven by engagement with clients as they strive to become cloud and cognitive enterprises.
The Global Technology Services segment consists of Infrastructure and Cloud Services and Technology Support Services as the key products. All the products reported a decline in revenue primarily due to a shift in the company’s focus to investments in higher-value segments of the IT market.
The Systems segment consists of Systems Hardware and Operating Systems Software as the primary products of which the former reported a 24.4% decline in revenue while the latter reported a 1% revenue growth compared to the same period in 2018. This could be attributed to changes in product cycle dynamics.
