The volume of beer shipped in Q3 2021 was 9.17 billion ounces. There is an 11.15% incline in the volume of beer shipped under the year-on-year scale, computing growth of the absolute value of 921 million ounces of beer shipped. When compared to 8.25 billion ounces of beer shipped in Q3 2020. For the quarter-on-quarter scale, there is a decline in beer volume – by 5.52%, when compared to the beer volume shipped in Q2 2021 at 9.71 billion ounces, there is an absolute decline of 536 million ounces of beer volume. In the year 2016 maximum beer volume was shipped during Q3 2016 at 4.49 billion ounces, in the year 2017, it was during Q3 2017 at 4.30 billion ounces. In the year 2018, it was during Q3 2018 at 5.31 billion ounces.
For the year 2019, it was during the Q3 2019 which was at 6.32 billion ounces. In the year 2020, the highest beer by volume was shipped during Q3 20120 at 8.25 billion ounces, in the year 2021 it is the same results at the table, showing a pattern that the high productivity during the second quarter of a year (at any given year) affects the result in the next quarter. High productivity in Q2 of any year is because of the beginning of autumn that is also the tenure of the harvest of raw material used to make beers and alcohols.
The total volume of beer shipment is equal to 7.368 million barrels of beer at the year-end of 2020. There is an overall increase in barrel quantity by 38.8% when compared to 2019. This was primarily due to an increase in shipment of Twisted Tea and Truly Hard Seltzer and the addition of the Dogfish Head brands, this partially was offset by a decrease in their Angry Orchard and Samuel Adamas brands. The beer market is categorized into two segments – The High-End category, the Craft beer category, and total beer. On an individual category base company has estimated that the High-end category is positioned to increase market share, as drinkers continue to trade up quality and taste.
The company, in 2020, has estimated the High-End category percentage volume growth by 25%, for the craft beer category volume growth by 13%, and the total beer category was 10%. In the US under the entire beer market, 36% consists of the high-end category out of this 9% of high-end market share is captured by the company.
Impact of COVID on the Company
The company began seeing the COVID-19 impact on its finances from early march 2020. The pandemic had primarily affected a significant reduction in keg demand from the higher labor and on-premise channel and safety-related costs at the company’s breweries. In F.Y. 2020, the shipment of kegs decreased to 3% of the total shipment volume from 2019. As per the safety guideline related to COVID-19 measures were taken that resulted in reduced breweries productivity. To keep up, the company shifted, more volumes to third-party breweries, which increased production costs and negatively impacted gross margins.
