(All figures in millions, except percentages)
Wayfair Inc.’s total revenue declined from $3,839.50 million in Q3 2020 to $3,121 million in Q3 2021, indicating a fall of (-18.75%) on a year-on-year basis. Revenue also fell by 19.04% compared to $3,857.60 million earned in Q2 2021, it represents a return to normalcy in consumer behaviour as they approach the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 outbreak’s peak impact. Lower orders contributed to the drop in net revenue, which was largely mitigated by increased average order values.
Operating segments are defined as parts of an organization for which separate financial data is available and which the Chief Operating Decision Maker (“CODM”) reviews regularly when choosing how to allocate resources to each segment and evaluating performance.
Wayfair has two operating and reportable segments: the United States and International. Customer service and merchant fees, as well as selling, operations, technology, general, and administrative expenses, are allocated to the operating and reportable segments depending on the utilization and proportionate contribution offered to the segments.
Depreciation and amortization, equity-based compensation and related taxes, as well as interest expense, net, other income (expense), net, and provision (benefit) for income taxes, net, are all excluded from the allocations. Between Wayfair’s reportable segments, there are no net revenue transactions. Its revenue is further bifurcated into the following segments:
U.S. net revenue
The revenue earned from product sales on Wayfair’s U.S.-based websites makes up the majority of the U.S. segment. The major contribution to the company’s revenue of 83% was made by U.S. net revenue alone.
It contributed 83% to the company’s revenue. Revenue declined by (-20.76%) in Q3 2021 when compared to the same period in 2020, indicating some change in consumer behavior as Wayfair admits the COVID-19 outbreak had the highest impact in the same prior-year period. A decline in net revenue was caused by lower order volume, which was largely mitigated by higher average order values. Revenue also fell almost by 17% compared to $ 3,098.10 million earned in Q2 2021.
International net revenue
The revenue produced from product sales on Wayfair’s overseas sites is mostly allocated to the International segment.
The corporation had a 17% contribution from international net revenue. However, revenue fell nearly 7% from $564.60 million in Q3 2020 to $526.10 million in Q3 2021. The decline was mostly attributable to the release of extra margin from merchandising and logistics investments. Revenue also fell by 30.72% compared to $ 759.40 million earned in Q2 2021.
