Outdoor Sports
Outdoor Sports is a large and growing segment of the company contributing approximately 27.25% part in the company’s total revenue. Broadly, Vista’s five operating segments are included in this category specifically, Golf, Sports Protection, Action Sports, Outdoor Cooking, and Hydration. Some of the products that fall under these categories are; Golf products – laser rangefinders and other golf technology products; Sports protection and Action Sports – snow sports, footwear, audio speakers, eBikes, helmets, goggles, and accessories for cycling; Outdoor cooking – grills, stoves, and cookware; Hydration products – hydration packs, water bottles, and drinkware. A range of the company’s popular brands is Federal, Bushnell, Primos, Blackhawk, CCI, Remington Ammunition, and more.
In 2021, Outdoor Sports encountered a challenging retail environment driven by the Covid-19 pandemic which led to a shift in consumer preferences, supply chain interruptions, temporary closure of stores, deterioration of general economic and retail conditions as well as other market pressures. Despite these uncertain conditions, many of the company’s brand as well as direct-to-consumer websites were able to respond and capitalize on the trend towards online shopping platforms and created a frictionless experience for its consumers.
Recent Trends: Revenue contribution by this segment increased by $195.49 million in Q2 2021 to $212.11 million in Q2 2022, marking an upsurge of 8.5% on a year-on-year basis. Mainly due to continuous demand across all categories in the market and no prevalent provision regarding temporary closure of stores.
Shooting Sports
A major part of the revenue generated by the company comes from this segment. Broadly, Vista’s three operating segments are included in this category specifically, Shooting, Hunting, and Ammunition. Among these three, Ammunition holds the largest part of sales, because of its consumable nature that leads to recurring purchases. Some of the products that fall under these categories are; Ammunition – pistol, rifles, rimfire binoculars, and primers; Shooting and Hunting – riflescopes, laser rangefinders, trail cameras, blinds, decoys, mounts, archery accessories, etc. A range of the company’s renowned brands is CamelBak, Camp Chef, Blackburn, KRASH!, Bell, Giro, Bushnell Golf, Copilot, Venor, and more.
Shooting Sports are highly influenced by trends including hunting and recreational shooting participation rates, the political environment, and civil unrest. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and Nationwide civil unrest, the participation rates remained strong, and the company witnessed an expanded demographic of users. Especially in view of the fact that, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, consumers were looking forward to local outdoor activities as a substitute for travel, and for empowerment and personal protection during civil unrest.
Recent Trends: Revenue contribution by this segment increased by $379.69 million in Q2 2021 to $566.35 million in Q2 2022, marking an upsurge of about 49.16% on a year-on-year basis. Mainly due to strong demand and improved pricing almost across all the categories, but was partway offset by a decline in sales of small rifle ammunition due to receded supply.
