This statistic highlights Twitter’s Daily Active Users by Region (Mobile) from Q1 2017 onwards split across International mDAUs, United States mDAUs, and Worldwide mDAUs.

Twitter’s mDAUs ( monetizable Daily Active Users) include people, companies, or other accounts that have logged in or been otherwise authenticated and have accessed Twitter on any given day via twitter.com or Twitter apps that can display advertising.

The data collected by Twitter for the purpose of determining the geographical location of the mDAU is based on the IP address or phone number associated with the account at the time of initial registration. The IP address or phone number may not accurately reflect a person’s actual location at the time they are engaged with the platform.

International mDAUs

International mDAUs include the number of users who have logged in or accessed Twitter on any given day outside the United States of America.

Twitter’s International mDAUs rose from 83 million in Q1 2017 to 162 million in Q1 2021, an increase of 95% or 79 million users. The number of users also grew by 22% compared to Q1 2020, where there were 133 million users.

United States mDAUs

United States mDAUs include the number of users who have logged in or accessed Twitter on any given day in the United States of America.

Twitter’s United States mDAUs rose from 26 million in Q1 2017 to 38 million in Q1 2021, an increase of 45% or 12 million users. The number of users also grew by 15% compared to Q1 2020, where there were 33 million users.

Worldwide mDAUs

Twitter’s Worldwide mDAUs rose from 109 million in Q1 2017 to 200 million in Q1 2021, an increase of 83% or 91 million users. The number of users also grew by 20% compared to Q1 2020, where there were 166 million users.

These figures are based on what are considered to be fair estimations for the appropriate measurement period. However, measuring usage and engagement across a large number of total accounts throughout the world has its own set of challenges.

Over the years, Twitter’s rate of growth has been fluctuating and it may slow down or decrease in the future. Major events, such as sporting events and music festivals, when postponed, suspended, or canceled, lead consumers to perceive Twitter content as less relevant, useful, or of poorer quality, potentially affecting mDAU growth or reducing monetization opportunities associated with such events.
