T-Mobile’s total revenue increased from $20.34 billion in Q4 2020 to $20.79 billion in Q4 2021, leading to a 2.2% growth in revenue on a yearly basis. Further, the revenue inclined by 5.9% on a quarterly basis, when compared to $19.62 million in Q3 2021.
T-Mobile’s revenue can be bifurcated into the following segments:
Service Revenues
The company provides wireless communication services through a variety of service plan options. Its chief service plan offering, which allows customers to subscribe for wireless communication services independently from the purchase of a device, is signature Magenta plan, which includes, among other benefits, unlimited talk, text and smartphone data on its network, 5G access at no extra cost, scam protection features and more.
Customers also have the ability to choose additional features, such as unlimited premium data with Ultra Capacity 5G service, for an additional cost on Magenta Max plans. The company generates the maximum of the service revenues by providing wireless communication services to postpaid and prepaid consumers.
The total revenue from this segment rose from $14.18 billion in Q4 2020 to $14.96 billion in Q4 2021, marking a growth of 5.5% in revenue on a year-on-year basis. The revenue also grew by $0.24 billion from $14.72 billion in Q3 2021 to $14.96 billion in Q4 2021, presenting a slight growth of about 1.6% on a quarterly basis. Overall, the service segment had the maximum share of 72% of the company’s total revenue in Q4 2021.
Equipment Revenues
The company also offers a wide selection of wireless devices, including smartphones, wearables, tablets, and other mobile communication devices, which are manufactured by various suppliers. The customers have the option of financing all or a part of the individual device at the time of sale, which can be paid through installments over time, generally 24 months, by availing an equipment installment plan. They also have the option to lease a device over a time period of upto 18 months and upgrade it when eligibility conditions are met.
The equipment revenue fell from $5.97 billion in Q4 2020 to $5.51 billion in Q4 2021, making a 7.7% decline in revenue on a year-on-year basis. On the other hand, it increased $0.85 billion, or by 18.2% as compared to $4.66 billion in Q3 2021, on a quarter-on-quarter basis. The equipment segment had a share of 26% in the company’s total revenue in Q4 2021.
Other Revenues
The total revenue from this segment, too, increased from $0.19 billion in Q4 2020 to $0.32 billion in Q4 2021, witnessing a rise of 68.4% on a yearly basis. The revenue also grew by $0.08 billion from $0.24 billion in Q3 2021 to $0.32 billion in Q4 2021, marking an increase of 33.4% on a quarterly basis. The other revenues comprise about 2% of the company’s total revenue for the period Q4 2021.
T-Mobile is a wireless network operator, that provides wireless services to 108.7 million postpaid and prepaid customers and generate revenue by providing affordable wireless communication services to these customers and a wide selection of wireless devices and accessories. It provides services, devices and accessories across the flagship brands, T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile, through its owned and operated retail stores, as well as through its websites, T-Mobile app, customer care channels and through national retailers. T-Mobile’s Merger with Sprint greatly enhanced its spectrum position.
