The table shows that there has been an increase in overall revenue from $19,272 million in Q3 2020 to $19,624 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 1.83% on a YoY basis. Revenue decreased from $19,950 million in Q2 2021 to $19,624 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 1.64% on a QoQ basis.
Postpaid customers include those who are qualified to pay after receiving wireless communication services utilizing phones, home internet, DIGITS, or other connected devices.
Postpaid revenue increased from $10,209 million in Q3 2020 to $10,804 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 5.8% on a YoY basis. This segment contributed the maximum amount to the tune of 55% in the total revenue of Q3 2021. This increase was primarily due to higher average postpaid accounts and higher postpaid ARPA (Average Revenue Per Account).
Prepaid customers include those who pay for the wireless communication service in advance.
Prepaid revenue increased from $2,383 million in Q3 2020 to $2,481 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 4.1% on a YoY basis. This increase was primarily due to an increase in average prepaid customers and higher ARPU (Average Revenue Per User).
Equipment revenue includes revenue from the sale or lease of mobile communication devices and accessories. The company offers some of the customers to pay for these accessories and devices in installments using an EIP (Equipment Installment Plan).
Equipment Revenue decreased from $4,953 million in Q3 2020 to $4,660 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 5.9% on a YoY basis. This decrease was caused due to:
4. Wholesale Revenue
Wholesale Customer includes Machine-to-Machine and Mobile Virtual Network Operator customers that operate on their network but are managed by wholesale partners.
Wholesale revenue increased from $930 million in Q3 2020 to $944 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 1.5% on a YoY basis. This increase was driven by the Master Network Service Agreement with DISH and the success of MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) relationships.
5. Roaming and Other services
The customers must pay roaming charges when using mobile phones traveling abroad that are outside their home network.
Revenue decreased from $617 million in Q3 2020 to $493 million in Q3 2021 by 20% on a YoY basis and from $638 million in Q2 2021 to $493 million in Q3 2021 by 22.72% on a QoQ basis. This decline was due to lower international roaming as a result of the Pandemic. However, there was an increase in revenue between Q3 2020 to Q2 2021. This increase was due to:
The imputed discount on receivables is amortized over the financed installment term using the effective interest rate method and is recognized as Other Revenue.
Other Revenue increased from $180 million in Q3 2020 to $242 million in Q3 2021 roughly by 34.44% on a YoY basis. This increase was driven by higher interest income from EIP receivables.
