Net dollar retention can be defined as a percentage that reflects whether annual recurring revenue is growing or shrinking within a defined period of time.
JFrog Ltd quantifies its expansion across existing customers through its net dollar retention rate. The company calculates the net dollar retention rate by first identifying customers (the “Base Customers”), which were customers in the last month of a particular quarter (the “Base Quarter”). Then calculate the contracted ARR from these Base Customers in the last month of the same quarter of the subsequent year (the “Comparison Quarter”). This calculation captures upsells, contraction, and attrition since the Base Quarter. Then it divides total Comparison Quarter ARR by total Base Quarter ARR for Base Customers.
The Net dollar Retention rate of the Company has decreased over the year from 136% in Q3 2020 to 129% in Q3 2021. While comparing quarterly, the rate has been decreasing by 3% from Q4 2020 to Q1 2021 and remaining constant at 129% from Q2 to Q3 of 2021. Overall, a decline in the rate has been observed.
LFrog’s net dollar retention rate in a particular quarter is obtained by averaging the result from that particular quarter with the corresponding results from each of the prior three quarters. Its net dollar retention rate may fluctuate as a result of a number of factors, including the level of penetration within its customer base, expansion of products and features, and its ability to retain its customers.
