This statistic highlight DRAM Revenue by Manufacturer Worldwide, across Micron, SK Hynix, Samsung, Powerchip, Nanya and other manufacturers, reported on a quarterly basis from Q1 2016 onwards.
DRAM is a type of random access memory, which is used in computer systems to provide memory. DRAM is most suited for electronics where low cost and heavy capacity memory is required. The capacitor on the DRAM needs to be updated periodically. It is pretty cost effective and simple as compared to SRAM. DRAM memory is only available when the device is powered. DRAM facilitates for reasonably fast and dense memory to be assembled easily. There are various different types of DRAM’s that have been developed over the years, namely FPM, EDO, BEDO, SDRAM, DDR DRAM, etc.
DRAM manufacturers, collectively, generated over $24 billion in revenue during Q1 2022 alone. Samsung is the largest DRAM manufacturer in terms of revenue, with SK Hynix and Micron Technology occupying the second and third spots, respectively.
Manufacturer | Revenue in Q1 2022 | Market share in 2022 Q1 |
Micron | 5,719 | 23.8% |
Nanya | 712 | 3.0% |
Other | 295 | 1.2% |
Powerchip | 52 | 0.2% |
SK Hynix | 6,551 | 27.3% |
Samsung | 10,460 | 43.5% |
Winbond | 247 | 1.0% |
Total | 24,036 | 100.0% |

In 2017 the average selling price for a unit of DRAM stood at 4.81 USD. According to DRAMexchange the demand for DRAM has reached stable levels again after the drop in recent years. Most of the vendors pulled their quarterly product shipment forward to avoid potential negative impacts from Trump’s impending tariffs, this shift skyrocketed DRAM suppliers’ sales bits in the third quarter of 2019, driving total DRAM revenue up by 4 percent and ending the quarter on quarter decline period which lasted over three consecutive quarters. Regarding the performance of revenues in the third quarter of 2019, Samsung increased its sales by 30 % and quarterly revenue by 5 percent to $7.12 billion as they too pulled their shipment forward and the demand in the server market began to rise.
SK Hynix was able to grow their sales by 20 % and quarterly revenue by 3.5 % to $4.41 billion. Micron had a relatively weak beginning to 2019, but they were able to grow their sales by 30 % and their revenue reached $ 3.07 billion, however their market share dropped below 20%. Winbond showed a consistent performance, with a 5 percent quarter on quarter growth in revenue. Powerchip saw a 6% decline in revenue.
The shipment numbers were increasing, but the DRAM suppliers saw a drop in operating profit margins due to the 20% industry wide decline in ASP (application service provider). Samsung’s quarterly operating profit margin dropped to 33 percent, from 41 percent the previous quarter. Sk Hynix’s operating profit margin dropped to 24% from 28% due to it’s cost reduction initiative. Nanya also saw a decline in their gross profit and operating profit margins.
The DRAM market is expected to grow in the coming few years owing to the technological advancements, with the DDR5 DRAM set to be available to consumers in 2020.
