This segment consists of SiC materials, power devices and RF devices. The Silicon Carbide (SiC) materials products are targeted mainly for customers who use them to manufacture products for RF, gemstones and other applications. It is also purchased by corporate, Government and universities for research and development directed at RF and power devices. The SiC power products provide increased efficiency, faster switching speeds and greater reliability. These are sold primarily to customers and distributors for use in electric vehicles, solar inverter and other applications. This segment, contributing nearly 50 per cent of the total revenue for the quarter ended June 30, 2019, reported a marginal growth as compared to same period in 2018. The increase could be attributed to strong organic growth and also, RF Power business acquisition.
This segment includes LED chips and LED components which enable customers to develop and market LED based products for lighting, video screens, automotive and specialty lighting applications. The primary competitors in this segment are Samsung LED Corporation, Seoul Semiconductor, Nationstar, Lumileds, Nichia Corporation and OSRAM.
The company face a stiff competition in the nitride LED market from Nichia Corporation on parameters like price, strength and performance. The products in the LED Chips segment are well positioned to meet the market requirements. However, there is strong pricing pressure. The company’s high-brightness LED components are well-positioned to compete in the market based on price, performance, availability and usability.
This segment also reported a marginal decline owing to tariff costs. However, the gross margin increased due to a favorable product mix, higher license and royalty revenue and improved factory costs.
