Broadcom Inc. develops, manufactures, and sells a variety of semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions.

Broadcom’s Revenue Breakdown

The following table highlights Broadcom’s Revenue Breakdown for Q3 2021, Q2 2021, and Q3 2020.

 Revenue Breakdown  Q3 2020  Q2 2021  Q3 2021 Revenue  Mix for Q3 2021
 Products  $4.13  $4.98  $5.06  75%
 Subscriptions and services  $1.70  $1.63  $1.71  25%
 Total  $5.83  $6.61  $6.77  100%

(All figures in billions, except percentages)

Broadcom’s total revenue grew from $5.83 billion in Q3 2020 to $6.77 billion in Q3 2021, marking a 16% increase on a year-over-year basis. Despite the risk of uncertainty caused by the ongoing pandemic, the company continues to see robust demand in the semiconductor solutions segment. There is little impact of COVID-19 on the software business, but the macro-environment remains uncertain.

Broadcom’s revenue is bifurcated into the following business verticals:

Products

The company’s product portfolio primarily includes semiconductor devices and infrastructure software solutions.

These are some of the semiconductor solutions offered by the company:

  • Set-Top Box Solutions – Broadcom offers complete SoC (System on Chip) platform solutions for cable, satellite, Internet protocol television, over-the-top and terrestrial STBs.
  • Ethernet Solutions – The company produces a host of ethernet switching and routing products which help in building scalable networks that can support several servers.
  • Connectivity Solutions – These include discrete and integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth solutions, and GSP/GNSS mobile navigation receivers that are operated through satellite.
  • Broadband Access Solutions – The company provides SoC platform solutions for various broadband technologies like DSL, cable, PON, and WLAN for both CPE and CO deployment. Consumer Premise Equipment (CPE) devices are used in broadband modems and Wi-Fi routers. Central Office (CO) devices like cable modem termination systems are useful for broadband infrastructure.
  • Industrial End Market Products – The company also offers a wide variety of products for general industrial and automotive markets. For instance, Optocoupler, which provides electrical insulation and signal isolation, is used in computers, telecommunication equipment, power generation, and many more fields.

Besides this, the company provides infrastructure software solutions that include mainframe software solutions and cybersecurity solutions. Fibre Channel Storage Area Networking (FC SAN) products of the company help in simplifying storage area networking management.

In Q3 2020 the revenue produced by products was $4.13 billion that increased to $5.06 billion in Q3 2021, marking an increase of 23%. Revenue made by this segment makes up for a majority of the company’s revenue.

Subscriptions and services

This business vertical earns revenue primarily through fees and royalties from software users and by providing professional services, support services, transfer of Intellectual Property (IP), and non-recurring engineering (NRE) arrangements for the development of products.

  • Professional services include consulting, customer education, and customer training services.
  • Support services involve telephone support and the provision of updates and upgrades.
  • Selling and licensing of Intellectual Property Rights is also a source of income for the company.
  • The company also provides NRE arrangements for the development of custom chips.

In Q3 2020, this segment’s revenue was $1.70 billion which increased to $1.71 billion in Q3 2021, making a 0.5% increase.
