Bandwidth Inc’s Revenue by Segment Worldwide increased from $84.75 million in Q3 2020 to $130.63 million in Q3 2021, marking a 54.13% growth on a year-on-year basis. It increased by 8.27% as compared to $120.65 million in Q2 2021.

Revenue is primarily derived from usage and service fees in both the CPaaS and Other segments and is primarily derived from the sale of communications services offered through Application Programming Interface (“API”) software solutions to large enterprises, as well as a small and medium-sized business, customers. Voice communication (mainly driven by inbound, outbound, and toll-free minutes) and messaging communication (mostly driven by the number of messages) that transit the platform and network generate usage income. The provision and maintenance of phone numbers and access to emergency services are all included in the service rates.

Customers who utilize the Company’s communications platform pay usage-based fees, which make up the majority of revenue. Access to the Company’s communication platform is treated as a collection of distinct services with a continuous transfer of control to the customer, resulting in a single performance obligation with usage-based fees recognized in revenue during the time the traffic passes through the Company’s network.

Bandwidth Inc’s Revenue is further bifurcated into the following segments:

CPaaS segment

CPaaS revenue comes from usage and monthly subscription fees charged for using the Company’s proprietary CPaaS software application programming interfaces to access Voice, Messaging, 911, and Phone Numbers products. Fees charged for services such as SIP trunking, data resale, and hosted Voice-over-Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) make up the rest of the revenue.

The major component of 82% of the company’s revenue was made up by the CPaaS segment. Bandwidth Inc’s revenue owing to the CPaaS segment increased from $73.76 million in Q3 2020 to $107.37 million in Q3 2021, indicating a rise of 45.56% on a year-on-year basis. The growth in CPaaS revenue was mostly due to increased utilization of all service offerings, particularly phone and messaging services.

Other segment

Other revenue is made up of profits from legacy services that aren’t CPaaS, and indirect revenue. Revenue from traffic generated by other carriers, SMS registration fees, and other miscellaneous product lines are all included in the Other section.

Bandwidth Inc’s revenue from the Other segment increased from $10.99 million in Q3 2020 to $23.26 million in Q3 2021, marking an increase of 111.64% on a year-on-year basis. Higher indirect revenue, which climbed by $12.27 million due to an increase in messaging surcharges and indirect phone income, more than offset the predicted reduction in legacy revenue.

As a result of the vertical integration of Bandwidth (NASDAQ: BAND), a software platform built on the network, the company has become a leader in the growing CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) industry and was finally released in 2017.

Bandwidth assisted Google in the introduction of Google Voice in 2009, a first-of-its-kind offering at the time.
