Ulta Beauty’s total revenue generated in Q2 2021 stood at $1,967.2 million as compared to $1,228 million in Q2 2020, making a growth of 60.2% on a year-on-year basis. However, it only grew by 1.5% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $1,938.51 million in Q1 2021 to $1,967.2 million in Q2 2021.

Ulta Beauty’s revenue came from the following six segments:

Skin Care

Ulta Beauty offers a wide variety of skincare brands, ranging from The Ordinary to Clinique, along with their own line of skincare products.

The skincare category of the company contributed 17% to the total revenue generated in Q2 2021. The revenue stood at $334.42 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 51.3% from $221.04 million in Q2 2020. However, the revenue generated declined between the two quarters of 2021 by 9.2%, from $368.32 million in Q1 2021 to $334.42 million in Q2 2021.

Cosmetics

Ulta Beauty sells both, high-end and drug store cosmetics. Along with brands like MAC Cosmetics, Kylie Cosmetics, they have their own brand of cosmetics.

The cosmetics category of the company is the biggest revenue contributor which contributed 43% to the total revenue generated in Q2 2021. The revenue stood at $845.9 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 53.07% from $552.6 million in Q2 2020. However, the revenue generated declined between the two quarters of 2021 by 3.03%, from $872.33 in Q1 2021 to $845.9 in Q2 2021.

Fragrance and Bath

Ulta Beauty has fragrance brands from among the likes of Dior, Chanel and Versace, alongside their own fragrance range.

The fragrance and bath category of the company contributes 12% to the total revenue generated in Q2 2021. The revenue grew by 113.6% on a year-on-year basis, from $110.52 million in Q2 2020 to $236.06 million in Q2 2021. It marked a growth of 10.7% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $213.24 in Q1 2021 to $236.06 million in Q2 2021.

Haircare products and styling tools

Ulta Beauty offers hair care products like shampoos and conditioners from brands such as Biolage and Bumble & Bumble. They also sell hair styling tools such as curlers, flat iron and hairbrushes from brands like Dyson and Revlon.

The haircare products and styling tools category is the second biggest revenue contributor for the company and contributes 21% to the total revenue generated by the company in Q2 2021. The revenue stood at $413.11 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 60.2% from $257.88 million in Q2 2020, and by 12.16% from $368.32 million in Q1 2021.

Services

The service category of Ulta Beauty includes the beauty salon services they offer in each of their retail stores. They give their customers a range of beauty services, from haircuts to nail treatments.

The service category of the company contributes 4% to the company’s total revenue generated in Q2 2021. The revenue grew by 113.6% on a year-on-year basis, from $36.84 million in Q2 2020 to $78.69 million in Q2 2021. It marked a growth of 35.32% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $58.15 in Q1 2021 to $78.69 million in Q2 2021.

Accessories and others

The accessories and other category of Ulta Beauty includes their revenue from nail products, gift cards and loyalty programs.

This segment contributes a mere 3% to the company’s total revenue in Q2 2021. The revenue grew by 20.15% on a year-on-year basis, from $49.12 million in Q2 2020 to $59.02 million in Q2 2021.
