Starbucks sells a variety of consumer-packaged goods (CPG), such as ready-to-drink beverages sold outside of Starbucks’ stores and the sale of packaged coffee to various food service businesses.
This business is primarily conducted through the Global Coffee Alliance it has established with Nestlé and other partnerships and joint ventures. Merely 7.39% of its total revenue was generated from this segment in the first quarter of 2020.
Company Operated Stores
Starbucks generates the highest portion of its revenues from this segment (81.45% of the total revenues for the first quarter of 2020). It operates through approximately 16,000 of its company-operated stores, worldwide, as of the recent period.
Starbucks primarily sells a variety of coffee beverages, food items, and other miscellaneous beverages in these stores.
Licensed Stores
Starbucks conducts its business in a similar manner in its licensed stores as its company-operated stores, the only difference being that licensed stores use their own employees & equipment. Licensed stores have a license to sell Starbucks’ products under the Starbucks brand name.
The company operates through approximately 15,000 licensed stores present globally, as of Q1 2020. The revenues from licensed stores operated by Starbucks accounted for 11.16% of the total revenues generated by the coffeehouse during the first quarter of 2020.
