Revenues from customers in China (including Hong Kong) and South Korea, the major revenue contributors, comprised 67% and 14%, respectively, of total consolidated revenues for fiscal 2018, compared to 65% and 16%, respectively, for fiscal 2017, and 57% and 17%, respectively, for fiscal 2016. The company reports revenues from external customers by country based on the location to which the products or services are delivered, which for QCT is generally the country in which the clients manufacture their products, or for licensing revenues, the invoiced addresses of the licensees. As a result, the revenues by country presented herein are not necessarily indicative of either the country in which the devices containing the company’s products and/or intellectual property are finally sold to consumers or the location in which the companies selling the devices are headquartered. For example, China revenues could include revenues related to shipments of integrated circuits for a company headquartered in South Korea but manufacturing devices in China, which are then sold to consumers in Europe and/or the United States.
The sales are influenced by lower modem sales to Apple and declining demand from OEMs in China. Also, for some products such as the QCT segment, sales are strongly influenced by seasonal fluctuations and launch timings of Apple’s products.
Headquartered in San Diego, California, Qualcomm Incorporated is a well-known name in the global semiconductors industry. The company is publicly trading on NASDAQ as QCOM. It derives revenues principally from the sales of integrated circuit products and licensing our intellectual property, including patents, software and other rights.
