What is Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR)?
Annualized Recurring Revenue is defined as the annualized recurring value of active contracts till the last day of a given period based on recent renewal rates. Next-Gen security Annualized Recurring Revenue is the total annualized revenue from all the active contracts as of the last day of the reporting period for Contrex and Prisma offerings which also includes the VM series and other services.

Palo Alto Networks’ Annualized Recurring Revenue (ARR) grew from $5,680 million in Q3 2020 to $9,730 million in Q3 2021, making a rise of 71.3% on a year-on-year basis. It increased also increased from $6,510 million in Q4 2020 to $11,800 million in Q4 2021, making an increment of 81.26% on a year-on-year basis.
In 2020, the Annualized Recurring Revenue (ARR) increased from $5,680 million in Q3 2020 to $6,510 million in Q4 2020, making an increment of 14.61%. Further, between Q4 2020 and Q1 2021, the ARR of the company witnessed an uptick from $6,510 million in Q4 2020 to $7,190 million in Q1 2021, rising by 10.44%.
In 2021, the Annualized Recurring Revenue (ARR) increased from $7,190 million in Q1 2021 to $8,400 in Q2 2021, registering a growth of 11.6% on a quarter-on-quarter basis. It also increased from $8,400 million in Q2 2021 to $9,730 million in Q3 2021 and $9,730 in Q3 2021 to $11.800 in Q4 2021 depicting a steady increase of 13.67% and 17.55% respectively.
The Annualized Recurring Revenue shows a steady rise marking the company’s efficiency in acquiring and retaining its consumer base. This was primarily because of the increase in the adoption of portfolios like subscriptions, products, and support. The portfolio seeks to help the company to gain from recurring revenues while continuing to grow the user base.
