Space Systems
The company generates most of its revenue from this segment. It specializes in delivering end-to-end mission solutions. Space Systems segment designs, develops, manufactures, and operates satellites and payloads, ground systems, launch vehicles and related propulsion systems, missile defense systems, and strategic missile systems. The prime users of these systems include civil government, national security, commercial and international customers. Space System is further divided into two reportable business areas:
Aeronautics System
The company’s Aerospace Systems segment, designs, develops, manufactures as well as integrates, sustains, and modernizes advanced aircraft systems. The key users of these aircraft comprise the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, other U.S. government agencies, and international customers. Air missions supported by aircraft systems are air dominance, strike, battle management, and control. In addition, it also supports “ISR” which stands for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance. Aeronautics System is further divided into two reportable business areas:
Mission Systems
This segment delivers advanced mission solutions and multifunction systems. The key users of these systems are the U.S. defense and intelligence community, and multinational customers. It provides a wide range of products and services including surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems, acoustic sensors, electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR), electronic warfare systems, advanced communications and network systems, cyber solutions, intelligence processing systems, navigation, and maritime propulsion, power and payload launch systems. The Mission system is further divided into two reportable business areas:
Defense Systems
Defense system segment, develops, designs, and manufactures as well as integrates, modernizes, and sustains weapon and mission systems. The prime users of these systems include the U.S. military, civilian agency customers, and an expansive range of international customers. Primary products and services that come under this segment comprise weapons systems, integrated battle management systems, and mission and aircraft systems modernization and sustainment. Defense System is further divided into two reportable business areas:
Intersegment Eliminations
The value at which the sales between the segments are recorded, contains intercompany operating income, for the particular segment. It is based on the segment’s expected average operating margin rate for outer sales. In other words, Intersegment eliminations include revenue from initiatives that facilitate trade between the company’s operational segments. Due to such intercompany operating income, the company’s total operating income may reflect inaccurate results in consolidated files. Hence, such income is deducted during consolidation, so that company’s total operating income and sales depict only those trades which are made with external customers.
