The total revenue of Nordstrom made a 100.5% growth on a year-on-year basis, increasing from $1,778 million in Q2 2020 to $3,565 million in Q2 2021. It marked a growth of 22.04% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $2,921 million in Q1 2021 to $3,565 million in Q2 2021. The total revenue of the company grew steadily between Q2 2020 and Q2 2021.

Nordstrom’s revenue came from the following segments:

Beauty

The beauty segment of the company contributed 11% to the total revenue generated in Q2 2021. The revenue stood at $392.15 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 83.8% from $213.36 million in Q2 2020 and by 22.04% from $321.31 million in Q1 2021.

Kid’s Apparel 

The kid’s apparel segment contributed only 4% to the company’s total revenue generated in Q2 2021. This segment grew by 100.5% on a year-on-year basis, from $71.12 million in Q2 2020 to $142.6 million in Q2 2021. It marked a growth of 22.04% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $116.84 million in Q1 2021 to $142.6 million in Q2 2021.

Men’s Apparel 

The men’s apparel segment contributes 14% to the company’s total revenue generated. The revenue stood at $499.1 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 133.9% from $213.36 million in Q2 2020 and by 42.4% from $350.52 million in Q1 2021.

Shoes

The shoe segment is the second-highest revenue contributor and contributes 24% to the total revenue generated. The segment saw a 78.22% growth on a year-on-year basis. It stood at $855.6 million in Q2 2021 as compared to $480.06 million in Q2 2020. It marked a growth of 12.65% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, from $759.46 million in Q1 2021 to $855.6 million in Q2 2021.

Women’s Accessories

Nordstrom’s women’s accessories segment contributes 14% to the company’s total revenue. It stood at $499.1 million in Q2 2021, which was up by 87.14% from $266.7 million in Q2 2020 and by 22.04% from $408.94 million in Q1 2021.

Women’s Apparel

The women’s apparel segment is the biggest revenue contributor of the company and contributes 30% to the company’s total revenue. The revenue generated in Q2 2021 stood at $1,069.5 million, which was almost twice the revenue generated in Q2 2020 ($480.06 million). The segment contributed revenue worth $905.51 million in Q1 2021.

Other

The other segment of the company includes home accessories. This segment contributes a mere 3% to the company’s total revenue. The segment generated a revenue of $106.95 million in Q2 2021, which is up by 100.5% from $53.34 million in Q2 2020 and by 83.07% from $58.42 million in Q1 2021.

In 1901, John W Nordstrom and Carl F Wallin found the company as a shoe store. Today, it is a fashion retailer, serving its customers through 100 stores, 248 Nordstrom racks and their online website. Nordstrom Rack is a subsidiary of Nordstrom, which offers branded products to customers at a discounted price. They have also integrated the concept of short-term pop-up shops to attract customers and have significantly increased their digital presence during the pandemic. They have a wide range of quality domestic and foreign suppliers.

The company operates through two segments: the retail segment and the credit segment. The retail segment offers clothing accessories to its customers through its physical and digital stores. The credit segment provides a private label credit and debit card called “Nordstrom VISA”. Nordstrom Inc’s common stock is listed on the NYSE under the symbol “JWN” and is a component of the S&P 400.
