ES6
ES6 is a mid-size Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that can seat up to five people. Nio delivered 8,660 units of its ES6 during Q3 2020, a 7% increase compared to Q2 2020, where 8,068 units were delivered. Further, there was a 106% increase in Q3 2020 as compared to Q3 2019 when 4,196 units were delivered. In fact, the deliveries of the ES6 model have increased steadily quarter on quarter from Q3 2019 to Q3 2020 except during Q1 2021, when only 3643 units were delivered. ES6 is by far the most popular car in Q3 2020, with about 71% of the total deliveries.
ES8
ES8 is the biggest car offered by Nio. It is a full-size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), that can seat between five and seven people. Nio’s deliveries of ES8 during Q3 2020, saw a huge increase of 55%, where 3,530 units were delivered, as against Q2 2020, where 2,263 units were delivered. This also corresponded to a 485% increase in Q3 2021 when compared to Q3 2019, where the company delivered only 603 units. Overall, while the deliveries of Nio ES8 saw an increase in deliveries from Q3 2019 to Q4 2019, from 603 to 1,400 units, thereafter there was a massive decrease of 86% in Q1 2020 where the total number of cars delivered was only 195 units which the lowest ever for any quarter. Nio’s least popular car is ES8, with 29% of the total deliveries.
The data also shows that Nio’s total deliveries have increased from 4,799 units to 12,190 units between Q3 2019 and Q3 2020, which is a 154% increase.
Nio’s deliveries by quarter have increased through the COVID-19 outbreak, because of the rise in demand in China. The new production line set up in Hefei allowed the company to sell cars in China, which is the world’s largest EV market. However, there was a steep decrease in the units delivered during Q1 2021. This may be attributable to the Global chip shortage and lockdowns imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is expected to benefit from China’s plans to further boost sales of new energy vehicles and reduce exhaust emissions to protect the environment.
