This statistic highlights Micron Technology’s DRAM and NAND revenue, reported on a quarterly basis from Q1 2016 onwards.
DRAM (Dynamic random-access memory) stores every bit of data in a memory cell and it’s made up of small capacitors and transistors. Generally, DRAM takes the design of an integrated circuit chip, that includes a dozen to billion memory cells of DRAM. DRAM chips are mostly used in digital electronics which need low-cost and increased-capacity computer memory. One of the applications that extensively use DRAM is used as the main memory in modern PCs and graphics cards. Also, it is used in various portable devices and video game consoles.
NAND is a term which in short stands for ‘NOT AND’. It is a boolean operator and a logic gate. NAND flash memory drive NAND is a widely used type of flash memory. This drive is used in many types of storage devices, involving SSDs, SD cards, and USB flash drives. NAND memory is not volatile which means that it can retain stored data when the power is automatically turned off.
NAND and DRAM drives are categorized under different business segments of Micron like CNBU, SBU, and MBU. The DRAM is mostly used in MBU (Mobile Business Unit). Whereas, NAND comes under CNBU (Compute and Networking Business Unit) and SBU (Storage Business Unit). As per the latest revenue trend of Micron, it is seen that Micron generated 63% of its revenue from DRAM while 31% of revenue came from NAND during the last quarter of FY19. The revenue from DRAM grew by 1% quarterly. Whereas, the revenue from NAND grew by 5% quarterly.
