This statistic highlights Lumentum: Revenue by Segment. California based Lumentum Holdings is an industry leader in providing photonic and optical products. The company earned a net revenue of $ 1.57 billion in FY 2019, which was a 25% growth from the previous fiscal year, attributable to the company making strides in the telecom and 3D sensing markets.

There are two reportable segments of Lumentem – the Commercial Lasers segment and the Optical Communications segment.

Commercial Lasers segment

Commercial lasers are used to develop advanced manufacturing techniques and life-science applications as well as 3D sensing capabilities.

The first quarter of FY 2019 saw a 37.2% decline in revenue from the commercial lasers segment, relative to Q4 FY 2018 in which an all-time high revenue of $ 56.2 million was earned. This was due to a decline in the sales of Lumentum’s solid state lasers and kilowatt class fiber lasers.

In Q3 FY 2019, there was a 4.76% rise in revenue from the same quarter in the prior year. However, the QoQ growth in Q3 FY 2019 was 4.1% less than the QoQ growth that took place in Q3 FY 2018. The Q1 FY 2019 revenues matched those that were produced in the first quarter of FY 2018.

Optical Communications segment

Lumentum’s Revenue by Segment statistic highlights that its OpComms segment caters to the telecommunications, data communications, consumer and industrial markets.

The quarterly revenue generated by the above segment of Lumentum has on an average, been 6 times that of the revenue earned from the sale of commercial lasers. There was a 49.16% YoY rise in revenue in the first quarter of FY 2019. This was mainly due to an increase in Telecom sales as well as the recent acquisition of Oclaro – a U.S. based manufacturer and seller of optical components.

In Q3 FY 2019, there was a QoQ growth of 16.13%, compared to a 31.60% decline in the third quarter of FY 2018. This decline was immediately preceded by the highest QoQ rise till date of 73.21% in the second quarter. In Q2 FY 2019, the quarterly revenue increase was under 5%. This segment produced nearly $ 378 million of revenue in Q3 FY 2019, which happened to be the maximum quarterly net revenue earned till date.
