Ford Motor Company, commonly known as Ford is a global automotive and mobility company, based in America. They are involved in the process of designing, manufacturing, and servicing a line of Ford cars, trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV), and also Lincoln luxury vehicles. Their product line includes cars like Ford Fiesta, Ford Taurus, Ford Fusion, Ford Mustang, etc., SUVs like Ford Explorer, Ford Escape, Ford EcoSport, Ford Edge, etc. and trucks like Ford Ranger, Ford F series, Ford Transit, etc.
Ford sold around 5.3 million vehicles in 2019 and 5.89 million in 2018 charting a drop of almost 9% from 2018.
Ford delivered 1.3 billion vehicles in Europe in 2019, down by 1.4% from the previous year.30% of the vehicles sold in Europe belonged to the commercial vehicles category and the majority of the sales were provided by Ford’s passenger vehicles. In the third quarter of 2019, Ford had sold about 91,800 commercial vehicles and 221,600 passenger vehicles in Europe.
Ford sales in the U.S. dropped by 3.2% in 2019 to 2.41 million from 2.49 million in 2018. After the first quarter of 2018, the sales of Ford cars in the U.S have been declining. The percentage of car sales in the revenue fell from 21.48% at the start of 2018 to 17.63% by the end of the year and further declined to almost 10.53% by the end of 2019. Sales for Ford trucks have been increasing in the U.S. At the start of 2018 sales of trucks formed about 45% 54.8% by the end of 2019.
In the first quarter of 2018, the number of Ford cars sold in the U.S was 128,790 which then increased to 140,230 in the second quarter after which it declined to 109,510 in the third quarter and 107,490 by the last quarter of 2018. The sales further dropped to 98,270 units in the first quarter of 2019 and then increased to 110,200 in the second quarter. After the second quarter of 2019 sales of Ford, cars saw a huge drop to 77,230 in the third quarter and 63,400 by the end of 2019.
The sale of SUV’s increased from 202,930 in the first quarter of 2018 to 236,200 in the second quarter, after which it declined to 215,600 in the third quarter and then increased to 217,340 by the end of the year. The sales dropped to 213,090 in the first quarter of 2019 and then increased to 215,900 in the second quarter. After this, the sales declined to 193,100 in the third quarter before increasing to 208,390 in the last quarter of 2019.
For the first quarter of 2018 Ford’s sales of trucks were 267,860 which increased to 301,630 in the second quarter and then dropped to 284,730 in the third quarter. Fourth-quarter sales were fairly stable as compared to the previous quarter at 284,860. Entering 2019 the sales dropped to 278,900 in the first quarter and then increased to 324,240 in the second quarter. The sales again dropped to 309,9200 in the third quarter before increasing again to 330,080 by the end of 2019.
Except for Ford cars, the other vehicle types have seen seasonal growth and fall in the sales figures. Trucks are now the main focus for the company in the U.S.
