D.R. Horton’s total revenue increased from $6,400.40 million in Q4 2020 to $7,896.40 million in Q4 2021, indicating a 23.37% growth on a year-on-year basis. The revenue in Q4 2021 increased by 8.40% compared to the previous quarter, Q3 2021.

D.R. Horton’s consists of the following segments:

Home Sales

Home sales are the Company’s core business. The Company’s homebuilding divisions engaged in the acquisition and development of land. It also includes the construction and sale of residential homes, with operations in 98 markets across 31 states. Home sales revenues increased in all of their regions due to an increase in the number of homes closed and to a lesser extent, an increase in average selling prices.

Approximately 90% of home sales revenue in fiscal 2021 was generated from the sale of single-family detached homes, with the remainder from the sale of attached homes, such as townhomes, duplexes and triplexes.

D.R. Horton’s revenue from Home Sales increased by 23.94% from $6,126.60   million in Q4 2020 to $7,593.40 million in Q4 2021 on a year-on-year basis. It also grew by 7.86% compared to $7,040.10 million earned in Q3 2021. This segment contributed to 96.16% of the company’s total revenue.

Financial Services

The Company’s financial services segment provides title agency services to homebuyers in many of the Company’s homebuilding markets and mortgage financing. The segment generates the majority of its revenues from originating and selling mortgages and collecting fees for a title insurance agency and closing services. The Company sells to third-purchasers substantially all of the mortgages it originates and the related servicing rights. Financial services operations consist primarily of the interest income of mortgage subsidiaries.

D.R. Horton’s revenue from Financial services increased by 0.72% from $220.90  million in Q4 2020 to $222.50 million in Q4 2021 on a year-on-year basis. It also grew by 17.91% compared to $188.70 million earned in Q3 2021. This segment contributed to 2.82% of the company’s total revenue.

Land/lot sales and other

In addition to its home sales and financial services the company provides Forestar services, and rental operations, the Company also engages in other business activities through its subsidiaries. The Company conducts insurance related operations, owns and operates energy-related assets, and owns non-residential real estate including ranch land and improvements. 

The company continually evaluates its land and lot supply, and fluctuations in revenues and profitability from land sales occur based on how they manage their inventory levels in various markets. 

D.R. Horton’s revenue from Land/lot sales and others increased by 52.17% from $52.90 million in Q4 2020 to $80.50 million in Q4 2021 on a year-on-year basis. It also grew by 44.27% compared to $55.80 million earned in Q3 2021. This segment contributed to 1.02% of the company’s total revenue.

Their product offerings include a broad range of homes for the entry-level, move-up, active adult, and luxury buyers. Their entry-level homes at affordable price points have experienced very strong demand from homebuyers, as the entry-level segment of the new home market remains under-served, with low inventory levels relative to demand.
