Networking platforms segment reflect sales of the company’s Converged Packet Optical and Packet Networking product lines. It also includes sales of operating system software and enhanced software features embedded in each of these product lines. The revenue is generally recognized upfront upon transfer of control. This segment is a major contributor to the total revenue, nearly 81 per cent and shows a 18 per cent revenue growth as compared to Q2, 2018.

Global services segment with a 14 per cent revenue contribution, represented nearly 21 per cent growth as compared to Q2, 2018. This increase reflects sales of the company’s installation and deployment services and the maintenance support and training services of the network. Revenue from this segment is generally recognized over time; for trainings services, it is recognized upon the completion of the service.

Software and software-related services segment reflects sales of Ciena’s Blue Planet Automation Software and Services. Services includes sales of subscription, installation, support, consulting and design services. Revenue from the software portions is included in the product revenue while from the service portions is included in the services revenue. This segment contributed a marginal 5.5 per cent to the total revenue in Q2, 2019, with a 23 per cent growth as compared to Q2, 2018 .
