Autodesk’s revenue is divided into three segments:
Revenue by Segment | Q2 2021 | Q1 2022 | Q2 2022 | Revenue Mix by Segment in Q2 2022 |
Subscription | $841.20 | $947.50 | $1,016.70 | 96% |

(All figures are in millions, except percentages.)
AutoDesk Inc. generated $1,059.70 million in Q2 2022, which was an incline of 16% on a year-on-year basis, as compared to $913.10 million in Q2 2021, primarily due to a 21% increase in subscription revenue. The increase in subscription revenue was partially offset by a 67% decrease in maintenance revenue. Total revenue also grew by 8.3% on a quarterly basis, as compared to $989.30 million earned in Q1 2022.
AutoDesk’s revenue can be classified into the following segments:
Subscription
Subscription revenue comprises of the term-based product subscriptions, cloud service offerings, and versatile enterprise business arrangements (“EBA”). Subscriptions constitute a combined offering of desktop software and cloud functionality which provides a device-independent, collaborative design workflow for designers and their stakeholders.
Revenue generated from the Subscription segment witnessed an increase from $841.20 million in Q2 2021 to $1,016.70 million in Q2 2022. This indicates a growth of 20.8 % on a yearly basis. It also grew from $947.50 million in Q1 2022 to $1,016.70 million in Q2 2022, marking a growth of 7.3%, on a quarterly basis. The subscription segment comprises 96% of the total revenue in Q2 2022.
The subscription revenue increased due to growth across all subscription types, led by product subscription renewal revenue, which benefited from the success of the maintenance-to-subscription (“M2S”) program. Also, an increase in revenue from new product subscriptions and EBA offerings contributed to the growth of this segment.
Maintenance
Maintenance revenue comprises renewal fees for existing maintenance plan agreements that were initially purchased with a perpetual software license. Under the maintenance plan, customers are entitled to receive unspecified upgrades, when and if available, and technical services.
The Maintenance segment saw a huge decline from $51.20 million in Q2 2021 to $16.90 million in Q2 2022, accounting for a fall of 67% on a year-on-year basis. Furthermore, it decreased from $19.10 million in Q1 2022 to $16.90 million in Q2 2022, indicating a decline of 11.5% on a quarterly basis. The maintenance segment comprised only 2% of the total revenue in Q2 2022.
Maintenance revenue dropped primarily due to the migration of maintenance plan subscriptions to subscription plan subscriptions with the M2S program.
Other
Other revenue includes revenue from consulting, training, and other goods and services.
The Other segment generated $26.10 million in Q2 2022, which was an incline of 26% on a yearly basis as compared to $20.70 million in Q2 2021. It also witnessed a slight growth of 15% as compared to $22.70 million in Q1 2022. The Other segment comprises 2% of the total revenue for Q2 2022.
