Aphria Inc. is a Canadian cannabis company. It is one of the largest cannabis companies in the world. The company produces marijuana in its Aphria One Facility which recently obtained a license to operate a 1,100,000 square foot greenhouse. The company also owns Broken Coast Cannabis Inc, which is licensed to produce 4,500 kgs of marijuana per year. Their portfolio consists of brands like Solei, Good Supply, and the Riff. The company has presence in South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia as well.
The company serves customers in the wholesale market, medical market, and adult-use market. For the first few years, the company focused on selling marijuana for medical purposes and wholesale as well but on smaller lines. Recently the company has shifted its focus to medical purposes but now more than 50% of the marijuana sold is for adult use, 30-40% for medical uses, and the rest is wholesale.
In the last quarter of 2017, the company sold 10.07 kg of marijuana in wholesale. They increased the sale of wholesale marijuana in 2018 to supplying cannabis for recreational use as well. In 2017 and 2018 almost all of the marijuana sold was a form
190.96 kgs in the first quarter, 312.02 kgs in the second quarter, 445.21 kgs in the third quarter, and then the sakes dropped to 32.45 kgs in the fourth quarter. The sales figure then increased to 312.02 kgs in the first quarter of 2019 and then fell down to 18.38 kgs in the second quarter and 32.96 kgs in the third quarter before increasing again to 929 kgs in the last quarter.
The company sold 1950 kgs of adult-use marijuana in the second quarter of 2019 and then went on to sell 1330 kgs in the third quarter and 3230 kgs in the fourth quarter. The company sold another 3230 kgs of adult-use marijuana in the first quarter of 2020.
The company had sold around 652.70 kgs of medical marijuana in the third quarter of 2017 and 728.23 kgs in the fourth quarter. The sales reduced to 661.04 kgs in the first quarter of 2018 after which it increased to 924.98kgs in the second quarter, 982,89 kgs in the third quarter, and 1280 kgs in the last quarter. The sales of medical marijuana have been fairly stable in 2019 at 1470 kgs in the first quarter, 1440 kgs in the second quarter, 1270 kgs in the third quarter, and 1420 kgs by the end of the year. It continued to be at the same level in 2020 at 1350 kgs in the first quarter.
The company has just recently initiated the sale of adult-use marijuana which is one of the biggest markets in the cannabis industry not just in Canada but across many countries in the world where the use of marijuana is legal. Aphria Inc. has expanded globally and will continue to do so as more and more cities are legalizing the use of marijuana at least for medical purposes. It has also been acquiring smaller cannabis brands to expand the company’s operations.
