This statistic highlights Aphria’s Average Selling Prices by End-Market, reported on a quarterly basis from Q3 2017 onwards.
Aphria is a Canadian cannabis company. It is one of the largest cannabis companies in the world in terms of market capitalization. The company was founded in 2014. Aphria’s main production facility – Aphria One operates a 1,100,000 sq. Ft greenhouse in Lamington, Ontario and can produce 110,000 of cannabis per year. Brands operated by Aphria include
Broken Coast Cannabis, Solei, Riff, and Good Supply. Broken Coast Cannabis alone can produce 4,500 kgs of cannabis annually. They operate with a total production area of 2,400,000 sq. ft which can yield around 255,000 kgs of marijuana annually. Aphria’s production facilities are all environment friendly. They also moved into the German market with its German subsidiary- Aphria Deutschland GmbH. They now serve customers in more than 10 countries.
The company’s revenue jumped from $36.92 million in 2018 to $237.11 million in 2019, increasing by more than 500% over one year. This increase in revenue can be owed to the introduction of adult-use cannabis to their product line.
The biggest market for the company was the medical marijuana segment, but in recent years adult-use marijuana is slowly becoming the major source of revenue for the company.
The average selling price per gram for Aphria’s medical marijuana was $7.85 in the third quarter of 2017 and $7.67 in the fourth quarter. Price then went up to $7.90 in the first quarter of 2018, $8.10 in the second quarter, $8.30 in the third quarter, and $9.25 by the end of the last quarter. Price began to drop into 2019 and went down to $8.99 in the first quarter, $7.51 in the second quarter, $8.03 in the third quarter, and $7.66 by the end of the year. The price went on to $7.56 in the first quarter of 2020, $8.16 in the second quarter, and is expected to go down to $6.41 by the end of the third quarter of 2020.
The average price per gram for adult-use marijuana started at $6.32 in the second quarter of 2019 and went on to $5.14 in the third quarter and $5.73 in the fourth quarter. In 2020 adult-use marijuana from Aphria was priced at $6.02 in the first quarter, $5.22 in the second quarter, and is expected to be around $5.47 in the third quarter.
Aphria focuses a lot on innovation and is introducing new and unique products consistently. Aphria plans to open up another production facility in the Lamington area, called Aphria Diamond in partnership with Double Diamond, a greenhouse operator. This new facility is estimated to produce around 120,000 kgs of marijuana per year once completed.
The legalization of marijuana in Canada was a major event for cannabis companies in Canada. Sales increased over 3 times after the move. The cannabis industry is far from exhausted yet as there are still a lot of untapped markets within the industry. In the coming years, the industry will pick up the pace and spread to more countries across the world. Aphria has the potential to emerge as one of the biggest cannabis companies in the world in the coming few years.
