Ambarella Inc. is a leading developer of semiconductor processing solutions for video that enable high definition video capture, sharing and display. They focus on low power high definition (HD) and ultra HD video compression, image processing, and computer vision processors. Their products are used in a wide range of human and computer applications including electronic mirror, automated driver assistance system, video security, drive recorder, driver and in-cabin monitoring, and a number of robotic applications. They sell their products into multiple end markets including consumer cameras, security cameras, broadcasting applications, etc. They sell their products to leading original design manufacturers, or ODMs, and original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, globally.

Ambarella’s revenue for 2019 was $227.8 million, down by 23% from $295.4 million in the previous year. The majority of Ambarella’s revenue comes from companies in Taiwan. Revenue from Taiwan contributes to more than 50% of Ambarella’s total revenue and the share in revenue has gone up to almost 75% in some quarters. Other major sources of the company’s revenue are Europe which contributes to about 7 % of the company’s total revenue, but has seen the share in revenue go up to almost 30% in some quarters, the revenue from the Asia- Pacific region has been increasing over the years and now forms about 25-30% of the total revenue, the United States contributes around 1-2% and the other.
As of the last quarter of 2018, the revenue from the United States was $1.29 million. Going into 2019 the revenue from the U.S decreased to $788,000 in the first quarter, then increased to $907,000 in the second quarter, again dropped to $750,000 in the third quarter and then increased to $871,000 by the end of the year. The first quarter of 2020 saw the revenue drop again to $734,000 and is now expected to increase to $1.08 million in the second quarter and $1.86 million in the third quarter.
The revenue from other countries in North America was $3.54 million in the last quarter of 2018. The revenue from this region fell down drastically to about $2.01 million in the first quarter of 2019 and then to $1.50 million in the second quarter. and revenue then increased to $1.53 million in the third quarter and $1.99 million in the fourth quarter. The first quarter of 2020 saw another huge fall in revenue from North America to $883,000. The revenue from this region is now expected to rise in the coming quarters to around $3 million in the second quarter and $2.80 million in the third quarter.
The revenue from Europe had seen an exponential rise in the last quarter of 2018 to $15.93 million. The first quarter of 2019 saw the revenue from Europe return back to normal figures at $4.58 million, before reducing to $2.88 million in the second quarter. The revenue then increased to $5.73 million in the third quarter and $5.05 million in the fourth quarter. and revenue then decreased again in the first quarter of 2020 to $3.48 million and is expected to generate $4.10 million in the second quarter and $2.26 million in the third quarter.
The revenue from Taiwan was around $35 million at the end of 2018. and revenue then decreased slightly to $33.21 million in the first quarter of 2019. The second-quarter revenue then increased to $39.14 million and then increased $31.55 million in the last quarter. The revenue then decreased to $27.60 million at the start of 2020. It is estimated to increase to $30.98 million in the second quarter and then $43 million in the third quarter.
The revenue from other countries in the Asia-Pacific was at $14.81 million and then went up in 2019 to $16.36 million in the first quarter, $18.05 million in the second quarter and $20.97 million in the third quarter before dropping to $11.61 million in the last quarter of 2019. It then increased to $14.49 million in the first quarter of 2020 and is expected to increase further to $17.25 million and $18.01 million in the second and third quarters respectively.
Ambarella’s revenue is expected to hit new highs in 2020 and can continue the same into the next few years due to the increase in demand for technology.
