Under Armour, Inc. is an American company which is engaged in the development, marketing and distribution of branded performance apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and youth. The company’s divisional segments are – North America, EMEA, Asia – Pacific, Latin America and connected fitness. Their products are used by athletes all over the world as well as by consumers with an active lifestyle.

The major part of the company’s revenue comes from its domestic operations in the United States and the apparel segment is the biggest market for Under Armour. They operate both brand house stores and factory house stores. A brand house is an Under Armour store that showcases all the new products and technologies. Sometimes they have items that are exclusive to brand houses. Factory houses are essentially outlet stores. They might have a few new products but, these stores generally sell older products or whatever inventory is left in the distribution house. Factory houses generally have a lot of sales going on at most of their locations. The factory houses outweigh the number of brand houses for Under Armour.

The number of brand houses operated by Under Armour in 2016 was 36 stores in the first quarter, 40 stores in the second quarter, 48 stores in the third quarter and 53 stores in the last quarter. The number of brand houses increased in 2017 to 57 stores in the first quarter, 63 stores in the second quarter, 70 stores in the third quarter and 76 stores by the end of the year. The number of stores had increased to 80 in the first quarter of 2018 and remained unchanged until the last quarter where the number of brand houses increased to 83. The number of brand houses further increased in 2019 to 92 in the first quarter, 95 in the second quarter and crossed 100 stores by the end of the third quarter.

The number of Under Armour factory houses stood at 162 in the first quarter of 2016 and then increased to 172 in the second quarter, 178 in the third quarter and 188 by the end of the fourth quarter. The number of factory houses remained unchanged in the first quarter of 2017 and then increased to 205 in the second quarter, 210 in the third quarter and 219 in the last quarter. The number of stores fell down for the first time to 217 in the first quarter of 2018 and then increased to 222 in the second quarter, 230 in the third quarter and 236 by the end of the final quarter. The number of factory houses went up in 2019 to 238 in the first quarter, 251 in the second quarter and 263 by the end of the third quarter.

Under Armour currently operates more than 350 stores including both brand and factory houses. The number of stores under each category has been increasing every year since the last four years, signalling a strong growth and a wider reach for the brand. Under Armour is now a popular name in sportswear and casuals as well.
