Company Overview

Roku, Inc. was founded in the year 2002 by Anthony Wood. After the failure of ReplayTV, Wood started worked with Netflix for a short period of time in 2007. Wood was working with Netflix on a project called Griffin – a set-top box that will allow the Netflix users to stream the content on TV but unfortunately few weeks before the launch, Netflix’s founder decided not to continue with it saying it would be one of the riskiest moves by Netflix. Further, in 2008 Roku came up with the set-top, and 2 years down the line they started offering various capabilities and emerged out to be their main business model. Roku has also partnered with TV brands that manufacture and sell co-branded models with Roku functionality and they offer wireless speakers that connect to Roku TV.
