Oracle’s total revenue increased from $9.796 billion in Q3 2020 to $10.085 billion in Q3 2021, marking a 3% increase on a year-on-year basis. The revenue also increased by 2.9% compared to $9.8 billion in Q2 2021.

Oracle’s revenue is further bifurcated as per the following segments:

Cloud license and on-premise license

Oracle’s cloud and on-premise licenses include fees received by offering clients perpetual licenses to utilize our database and middleware, as well as our applications software solutions, in the cloud and on-premise IT systems.

Oracle’s revenue from the Cloud license and on-premise license segment stood at $1.276 billion in Q3 2021, indicating a growth of 3.7% from $1.231 billion in Q3 2020 and by 16.8% from $1.092 billion in Q2 2021. This segment contributed 13% to Oracle’s total revenue in Q3 2021.

Cloud services and license

Oracle’s Cloud services and license support revenues come from offerings that are contracted directly with customers, billed in advance, delivered to customers over time with Oracle’s revenue recognition occurring over the contractual terms, and renewed by customers at the end of the contractual terms.  Cloud services and license support contracts give customers access to the most recent upgrades to the apps and infrastructure technologies they’ve purchased as they become available, as well as corresponding technical support services for the course of the contract.

In Q3 2021, Oracle’s Cloud services and license support segment accounted for 72% of the total revenue amounting to $7.252 billion. It witnessed a growth of 4.6% from $6.93 billion in the previous year of the same quarter and a 2% growth from $7.112 billion in the subsequent quarter.

Hardware

Oracle’s Hardware segment provides Engineered Systems, servers, storage, industry-specific hardware, operating systems, virtualization, administration, and other hardware-related applications to support a wide range of IT settings. It also involves hardware support such as software updates for software components that are critical to the performance of their hardware products, such as Oracle Solaris and other software, as well as product repairs, maintenance, and technical support.

In Q3 2021, the hardware segment generated $0.82 billion in revenue, down by 4.3% from $0.857 billion in Q3 2020. The revenue also declined by 2.8% from $0.844 billion in Q2 2021. In Q3 2021, this segment accounted for 8% of the company’s total revenue.

Services

Oracle’s Services segment offers services to customers and partners to help them get the most out of their Oracle applications and infrastructure investments.

Oracle’s revenue from the Services segment declined from $0.778 billion in Q3 2020 to $0.737 billion in Q3 2021, indicating a 5.3% decline on a year-on-year basis, and a 2% decline compared to $0.752 billion in Q2 2021. The Services segment contributed 7% to the company’s total revenue.
