This statistic highlights Microsoft’s Surface Revenue 2020. The surface is a series of tablet computers developed by Microsoft. It was launched in 2012 with an aim to integrate the Windows operating system into a personal computer designed and distributed exclusively by the multinational technology company.
Importance of tracking Microsoft Surface revenue
This is Microsoft’s own line of hardware. So, rising sales on the notebook division would have a direct boost on Microsoft’s overall revenues. Besides, the Surface line-up acts as a flagship for Microsoft, to target the premium notebook space. So, if it’s OEM partners are unable to demands and quality benchmarks of Windows users, Microsoft’s Surface line-up is there to make up for this shortfall.
Analysis of the performance of Microsoft based on Surface revenue
Surface revenues totalled $ 1.12 billion in the first quarter of FY 2020. This was an 8.52% decrease from the previous quarter and a 4% decrease from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. In fact, revenues have been witnessing a downtrend since Q3 FY 2019, with the maximum fall of 27.64% in the said quarter over the said period.
In the immediately preceding quarter of Q2 FY 2019, revenue from Surface devices had the maximum quarterly increase since Q1 FY 2017, of 60.69% and stood the highest at $ 1.87 billion.
The revenues during Q2 FY 2018 and Q3 FY 2019, were the same at $ 1.35 billion, closely matched by the $ 1.33 billion earned in Q2 FY 2017. In Q2 FY 2018, the rise in revenue was marginally more than half of the increase that took place during the same quarter the following year, at 31.79%.
