The company generates revenue by licensing and supporting an array of software products; offering a diverse portfolio of cloud-based solutions and other services to people and business organizations; designing, manufacturing, and selling devices; and delivering search advertising to a global audience. 

Revenue reported for the third quarter of fiscal year 2019 $30571 million was nearly 14 per cent higher compared with the third quarter of fiscal year 2018. LinkedIn, with a 5.55 per cent revenue contribution, reported a 27 per cent increase in revenue with record levels of engagement highlighted by LinkedIn sessions growth of 24 per cent (Microsoft revenue by product 2020). Server products and cloud services revenue, including GitHub, increased 27 per cent driven by Azure growth of 73 per cent. Gaming, with a mere 7.73 per cent revenue contribution, reported a 5 per cent revenue growth primarily driven by Xbox software and services growth of 12 per cent. Enterprise services also increased by 4 per cent and search advertising revenue, excluding traffic acquisition costs, increased by 12 per cent owing to a shift toward digital advertising.
