The brand Mastercard is one of the most recognized globally, representing instant buying power, security worldwide, immediate deposit access convenience, and flexible payment options. Consumers can expect to find the familiar Mastercard Brand Mark whenever and wherever they shop for products and services, while Maestro is also one of the world’s most widely recognized global deposit access brands. This brand is the only online, PIN-based debit brand that can be used for any purchase and get cash at ATMs worldwide.

The year 2016

Both brands saw contrasting growth. Mastercard, being more efficient and useful than other brands, witnessed consistent growth, while the older brand, Maestro, saw a decrease in the number of cards in use. As of the first quarter, the company’s customers had issued 2.22 billion MasterCard and Maestro-branded cards, yearly growth of 7% with a minute decrease in Maestro cards. In Q2, the company’s customers had issued 2.24 billion cards of MasterCard and Maestro brands, with consistent growth of 7% YoY. In the subsequent quarters, the increase was minute, primarily due to new and renewed agreements and increased volumes. and In the last quarter, the company’s customers had issued 2.29 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, with 6% yearly growth. Maestro brand, consistently seen a downfall in the number of cards throughout the year.

The year 2017

Following the same growth pattern as the last year, the Mastercard brand saw a consistent growth because of ease in use, while the Maestro brand followed the downfall in the number of cards. As of Q1, the company’s customers had issued 2.31 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, with an immense growth of 5% in Mastercard offset by a decrease in Maestro cards. Till Q3, the company reported a smooth growth, tolling the number of cards to 2.37 billion of both Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards with an overall 6% growth. As of last quarter, the company’s customers had issued 2.41 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, with a substantial drop in Maestro cards. While Mastercard soared with a total of 1,825 million cards, marking an overall growth of 5%.

The year 2018

The year started its growth with a slight decrease in the first quarter, compared to the last quarter, but soared consistently after adjusting for Venezuela deconsolidation’s impact. In Q1, the company’s customers had issued 2.39 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, with a 6% adjusted growth. The Mastercard brand grew by 10.04 YoY, while the Maestro brand continued to witness the fall in the issuance of cards. From the first quarter, the growth was consistent till the last quarter with growth in the Mastercard brand, offset by fall in the Maestro Cards brand. As of last quarter, the company’s customers had issued 2.52 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, with adjusted growth of 7% YoY.

The year 2019

This year, the Maestro Card brand reported a substantial downfall in the issuance of the number of cards, while Mastercard seamlessly grew throughout the year. As of the first quarter, the company’s customers had issued 2.52 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, same as last quarter with a similar increase in Mastercard brand and a similar decrease in Maestro brand. In the subsequent quarters, the growth was seamless, with partial offset by the Maestro brand. In Q4, the company’s customers had issued 2.60 billion Mastercard and Maestro-branded cards, where Mastercard brand grew by 175 million new cards YoY, while Maestro brand dropped to 419 million new cards.
