In the last quarter, the number of debit card usage is highest across the world, while in the US, the credit cards surged the count.

The year 2017

During the year, the number of cards is consistent with a significant increase in the Debit and Prepaid program. With 18.2% yearly growth, the debit card program surged worldwide in the first quarter, while with 5.4% growth, the credit card rose in the united states alone. In the subsequent quarters, the credit card program reported a vital growth worldwide while the debit card program is intact with its growth. In the last quarter, the debit card program marked the figure of 1,000 million globally. With a 6.8% growth in credit card programs worldwide, the value crossed 600 million marks, worldwide.

The year 2018

Following the streak, the growth in the cards is consistent throughout the year, with significant improvements in the Debit card program. In the first quarter, the debit card program reported a growth of 12.9% worldwide, with a mark of 1,027 million cards. The credit card program seems stagnant with a slight improvement in worldwide growth, marking the figure of 814 million cards. In the subsequent quarters, the number of cards in both the programs rose with a significant increase in the debit card program. In the last quarter, the overall growth of 14.8% was reported in the debit card program, while credit card program witnessed a constant growth.

The year 2019

This year, the overall growth is consistent over the quarters, with a decline in the debit card program’s growth rate. In the first quarter, the United States reported a 9.5% growth in the credit card program, with the overall number of cards tolling to 882 million. While debit card program again toppled the other program in terms of the number of cards. The growth was consistent in the subsequent quarters in both the programs. In the last quarter, the United States faced the lowest growth for the credit card program, while worldwide, the number of debit cards has crossed the mark of 1,000 million.
