The revenue from General motors is further bifurcated according to the following segment

GM North America – GMNA

GNMA includes the operations of the company in North America, with vehicles designed, developed, and sold under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands

General Motors generated $25.957 billion in Q1 2021. It was comparable with $25.831 billion generated in the previous year of the same quarter, however, this was a fall from $30.17 billion generated in the subsequent quarter. The year-on-year increase was associated with the launch of new full-size SUVs, which were affected by a decrease in sales volumes of passenger cars and crossover, and net wholesale value across vehicle lines due to loss in production resulting from the shortage of semiconductors in 2019 and COVID-19 related shutdowns in 2020.

GM International – GMI

GMI operates outside of North America. Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, and Holden are some of the brands under which vehicles are manufactured and sold globally.

In Q1 2021, this segment generated revenue of $3.086 billion against $3.28 billion in the previous year of the same quarter, a fall of 6% on a year-on-year basis. The revenue also declined from the previous quarter where it was $3.894 billion. The reasons for the decline are the decreased net wholesale volumes due to loss in production volumes resulting from shortage of semiconductors and decline in vehicle sales in Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand, and decrease in value of Brazilian Real and Argentinian Peso against the US Dollar. However, there was favourable pricing across multiple vehicle lines in Brazil and Argentina.

GM Financial

GM Financial is an automotive finance company. They provide retail loans, lease lending, commercial lending products to dealers, and dealer loans, which are loans to make improvements to dealership facilities, to provide working capital, and to purchase or finance dealership real estate.

The revenue from Financial segment of General Motors stood at $3.407 billion. It had declined by 4% from $3.561 billion in Q1 2020 and by 1% from $3.426 billion in Q4 2020. The revenue decreased due to a reduction in the leased vehicles portfolio, as terminations of leases exceeded their purchases.

Cruise

Cruise previously known as GM Cruise is General Motors’ global segment in charge of the development and commercialization of autonomous vehicle technology.

General Motors’ cruise segment witnessed a growth of 20% from $0.025billion in both Q1 and Q4 of 2020, to $0.03 billion in Q1 2021.

General motors actively test their autonomous vehicles in the U.S. with safety and protocols and continue to make progress towards the commercialization of a network of on-demand autonomous vehicles.

Corporate

General Motors’ Corporate consists of non-segment operations such as certain centrally recorded incomes and costs such as interest, income taxes, corporate expenditures, and certain non-segment-specific revenues and expenses.

The corporate segment revenue fell by 50% from $0.038 billion in Q1 2020 to $0.019 in Q1 2021 on a year-on-year basis, this was also a fall of 34% from $0.029 generated in Q4 2020.
