Frontier Communications is a telecommunication company in the U.S. The company initially served rural areas and smaller communities but has been slowly moving into larger markets. Their services include telephone services, broadband Internet, digital television, and computer technical support. They are now present in more than 25 states in the U.S. Frontier is a Fortune 500 company and also forms a part of the S&P SmallCap 600. They offer residential as well as commercial business services. In addition to their other services Frontier also offers services like cloud backup, equipment insurance, and identity protection.
The third-quarter revenue for 2019 was $1,997 million showing a decline from the second quarter. Net loss for the third quarter was $345 million. Frontier Communications reported an 8.57% year on year decrease in its 4Q 2019 revenue, which was much faster than the overall decrease of its competitors. Frontier’s primary competitors are T- Mobile and Verizon. Frontier uses certain Non-GAAP measures to evaluate its performance like EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA margin, leverage ratio, etc. Adjusted EBITDA is defined as EBITDA adjusted for restructuring costs, goodwill impairment charges, stock-based compensation expenses, and other non-recurring expenses. The third-quarter adjusted EBITDA was $804 million, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 40.3%. In comparison, the adjusted EBITDA in the second quarter of 2019 was $882 million. Their adjusted EBITDA has been constantly declining quarter on quarter.
The sequential decline in adjusted EBITDA was primarily driven by the decrease in revenue of almost $70 million and an increase in adjusted operating expenses of $8 million.
Frontier communication has been slowly losing customers over the years both in broadband communication and video service. They have been reporting a loss despite cutting back their revenues.
