Ford Motor Company is an automotive and mobility company. The company’s business involves designing, manufacturing, and selling Ford cars and Lincoln luxury vehicles. The company’s primary business segments are:

The company’s automotive segment is the one that deals with Ford and Lincoln vehicles. They have their business units in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and the Asia Pacific. Ford is the second-largest automaker in the U.S behind General Motors and the fifth-largest automaker in the world behind Toyota, VW, Hyundai-Kia, and General Motors.

The U.S is the largest market for Ford manufactured cars.

The number of units sold by Ford was growing consistently from 2010 to 2016. From around 4.25 million units’ sales in 2010 to more than 6.5 million-unit sales in 2016. In 2016 the number of unit sales per region was 106,000 in the ASEAN region,101,000 in Argentina, 82,000 in Australia, 182,000 in Brazil, 313,000 in Canada, 1,27 million in China, 283,000 in Germany, 103,000 in Mexico, 86,000 in India, 161,000 in Middle East and Africa, 45,000 in Russia, 116,000 in Turkey 428,000 in UK, 2.59 million in the U.S and 790,000 in other regions.

The number of units sold has been decreasing since 2016 with the total units sold decreasing to just about 6.5 million in 2017, a little less than 6 million in 2018, and less than 5.5 million in 2019. In 2018 the number of units sold in the ASEAN region was 117,000 which reduced to 102,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in Argentina was 86,000 in 2018 and reduced to 47,000 in 2019. Units sold in Australia dropped by just 1000 units from 65,000 in 2018 to 64,000 in 2019.

The number of units sold in Brazil reduced from 235,000 in 2018 to 218,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in Canada also reduced marginally from 295,000 in 2018 to 289,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in China reduced considerably from 731,000 in 2018 to almost 535,500 in 2019. The number of units sold in Germany increased from 313,000 in 2018 to 328,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in India decreased from 98,000 in 2018 to 73,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in Mexico decreased to 53,000 in 2019 as compared to 69,000 in the previous year. Units sold in the Middle East and Africa also reduced from 109,000 in 2018 to 94,000 in 2019.

The Units sold in Russia reduced from 51,000 in 2018 to 28,000 in 2019. Units sold in Turkey reduced from 65,000 in 2018 to 47,000 in 2019. The number of units sold in the UK dropped slightly from 387,000 in 2018 to 367,000 in 2019. Units sold in their biggest market – The U.S. also decreased to 2.41 million in 2019 from 2.54 million in 2018.

As you can see Ford has seen diminishing sales in recent years. Ford is slowly losing its market share across all regions and the future looks bleak for the company as the Covid-19 outbreak has affected the sales in the automobiles industry drastically. Hopefully, Ford is able to make a comeback in the coming few years.
