Monthly active users (MAU) is a performance metric that refers to the total number of unique users that interact with the product or service of a company over 30 days. It is a key performance indicator for internet products such as social networking sites, online games and mobile apps. An identity is created for each user using various means such as an e-mail address, username or by assigning an ID number. Each unique customer is generally counted only once even if they have been active numerous times during the month. What classifies as ‘active’ depends on the company. This could be liking or sharing posts or just visiting a company website.

Facebook had over 1.959 billion daily active users in Q1 2022, whereas it had over 2.935 billion monthly active users in the said quarter.

In Q3 FY 2019, the Asia Pacific region reported MAUs of 1.01 billion. While this was a 1% rise from the previous quarter, it was a 10.47% rise from the third quarter of the previous year.

Europe recorded its highest number of MAUs of Facebook in Q3 FY 2019. This totalled 387 million. Q3 FY 2018, faced the only QoQ decrease in this region since Q1 FY 2016.

Facebook has repeatedly recorded the lowest number of MAUs in the United States and Canada with under 250 million users as of Q3 FY 2019. 

802 million MAUs from the rest of the world were using Facebook in Q3 FY 2019, which is a nearly 9% increase from the previous year.
