January Data
Spot prices continued on their rapid climb during January. Where the 32Gb 4Gx8 MLC saw its spot price rise by a modest 5%, other SKUs such as 8Gb DDR4 2133Mhz saw a sharp 15-20% price increase. The extent of spot price gains has been variable though, depending on SKU-specific demand and supply trends.

Having said that, it seems like memory price bottom is behind us at this point in time. Memory prices might as well continue rallying going further in to February if the current trends prevail. This bodes well for memory manufacturers such as SK Hynix, Micron and Samsung.

December Data
Spot prices showed a sudden reversal of trends during December. Several SKUs have experienced a major decline in their spot prices over the course of 2019, such as 4Gb DDR3 modules, but their respective prices rebounded during the month.

Although several analysts are calling this as a memory bottom, it's too soon to tell, at least at this point in time, whether this is a lasting recovery or a just another false positive. Evolving trade relations between US and China, along with Japan and South Korea are going to impact the longevity of this recovery.
