This statistic highlights Delta Airlines’ Revenue by Segment, reported on a quarterly basis from Q1 2016 onwards.

Delta Airlines Inc. is an American airline company. They provide scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo throughout America and across the world. It is one of the largest airlines in the world in terms of traffic. They operate over 5,400 flights daily and serve 352 destinations in 52 countries.

Delta’s operations are divided into two chief segments – airline and refinery. The airline segment accounts for most of the company’s revenue. By product type, economy tickets form about half of the total revenue, while business class and premium tickets generate about 30%. Loyalty programs, travel-related services, cargo, and other services account for the remainder. This segment includes passenger airlines as well as cargo. The refinery segment provides jet fuel to the airline segment from its own production and through agreements with third parties.

Delta Airlines’ revenue for 2019 was around $47 billion. The revenue from passenger airlines accounts for almost 90% of the revenue and the remaining comes from Cargo and other services.

In the first quarter of 2018, the revenue from Cargo services was $202 million which then increased to $223 million in the second quarter, $226 million in the third quarter, and then dropped to $214 million in the last quarter of 2018. The revenue from the Cargo segment fell down to $192 million in the first quarter,186 million in the second quarter, $189 million in the third quarter, and $187 million by the end of the year.

The revenue from passenger airlines in the first quarter of 2018 was $8.77 billion after which it increased to $10.55 billion in the second quarter, $10.80 billion in the third quarter, and then dropped down to $9.65 billion by the end of the fourth quarter of 2018. The revenue in the first quarter of 2019 was at $9.25 billion it then jumped to $11.37 billion in the second quarter, $11.41 billion in the third quarter, and $10.25 billion in the fourth quarter.

Revenue from other sources stood at $1 billion in the first quarter of 2018 and then went up to $1.01 billion in the second quarter before dropping to $931 million in the third quarter and $881 million in the fourth quarter. In the first quarter of 2019, the revenue went back up to $1.03 billion and then dropped to $982 million in the second quarter, $961 million in the third quarter and then increased back to $1.01 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The revenue from the cargo segment has been fairly stable over the years with small variabilities between quarters, the revenue from other sources saw a huge drop after 2016 and is still not back to the same position and the revenue from passenger airlines has seen stable growth year over year and quarter on quarter as well. The coronavirus outbreak is going to have a major impact on the aviation sector as flight operations have been halted and there is no inflow of cash for these companies. Almost all airline firms are expected to undergo huge losses from this pandemic especially in the early quarters of 2020.
