This statistic highlights ContextLogic’s Revenue Breakdown by Segment, split between Marketplace Revenue and Logistics Revenue, reported on a quarterly basis from Q4 2019 onwards.

ContexLogic’s revenue is generated from logistics and marketplace services rendered to merchants. It recognizes the revenue when the control of the promised and assured goods/services is transferred to the customer. Its primary segment (Marketplace Revenue) offers merchants a mix of marketplace services. Merchants are also given access to the marketplace to display their wares for customers to purchase. Introduced in 2018, its Logistics offerings for merchants have been specifically designed for single order shipment that is direct end-to-end, from a merchant’s location to the customer.

ContextLogic’s Revenue by Segment

Revenue by Segment Q3 2020 Q2 2021 Q3 2021 Contribution in Q3 2021
Marketplace Revenue $454 $428 $220 59.78%
Logistics revenue $152 $228 $148 40.22%
Total $606 $656 $368 100.00%

(All figures are in millions, except percentages)

Total revenue surged in Q2 2021 with 656 million. However, the subsequent QoQ decline was of a considerable 44%. The YoY decline from Q3 2020 to 2021 was 39%.

Marketplace Revenue

Among the various marketplace services rendered, ContextLogic gives merchants a chance to access the marketplace to sell products. They also provide ProductBoost services which help merchants in promoting products. This segment comprises commission fees that are collected in connection with the user’s purchases of the merchant’s products. The marketplace revenue is recognized when the customer order is processed and the corresponding information has been relayed to the merchant. ProductBoost fee is also included here—it is charged for the display of products in select locations within the marketplace.

Marketplace revenue is the larger contributing segment of the two. In the above timeline, Marketplace’s highest revenue gross was in Q3 2020 with 454 million. From here, the YoY drop to Q3 2021 was a radical 51.54% at 220 million. Even the revenue mix, over the quarters, consistently decreases in proportion during their respective quarters—being the least in Q3 2021 with around 60%.

There was a 15% increase in this segment’s revenue from 2019 to 2020. This was mainly because of the company’s efforts to improve the buyers’ monetization. The YoY decrease from the third quarter in 2020 to 2021 was mainly due to lower order volumes with decreased LTM Active Buyers and MAUs. This decline in revenue was partially offset because of Wish Cash Liability breakage.

Logistics Revenue

The company’s logistics services have been designed for direct end-to-end single order shipment. These services include transportation and subsequent delivery of merchants’ products to customers. This revenue is recognized through time—when the merchant parallelly receives and consumes the benefit from logistics services.

During the given timeline, Logistics Revenue peaked in Q2 2021 with 228 million. There was a QoQ decline of 35% from Q2 to Q3 2021. Even though there was a YoY decline from Q3 2020 to 2021, it was of a slim 2.6%. The segment’s revenue mix gradually increases with the passing quarters. It was 25% in Q3 2020, 35% in Q2 2021, and apexed in Q3 2021 with 40%.

Logistics Revenue grew robustly in 2020—owing to the global expansion of logistics services and the increased acceptance of logistics programs by merchants. However, revenue from this segment in Q3 2021 was much similar to that in the previous year.
