This statistic highlights Comcast’s Number of Wireless Customers, split across Wireless Lines, reported on a quarterly basis from Q1 2019 onwards.

Comcast’s Number of Wireless Customers

Item Q4 2020 Q3 2021  Q4 2021
Wireless lines 2,826 3,668 3,980

(All figures are in millions)

Comcast’s Number of Wireless Customers increased from 2,826 million in Q4 2020 to 3,980 million in Q4 2021, marking a rise of 40.83% on a year-on-year basis. It increased by 8.50% compared to the 3,668 million earned in Q3 2021. The sale of devices is also a source of revenue for wireless consumers.

They count and report customers based on the number of potential billable relationships within each MDU for multiple dwelling units, including buildings on college campuses, whose residents can receive additional services, such as additional programming choices, HD video, or DVR services. Residents who are unable to receive additional services are counted as single customers.

Customers who have paid for services are included in the residential broadband and television customer metrics. Business clients are often counted by the number of locations that receive services through their distribution system, with some offers, such as Ethernet network services, being classified as individual customer relationships.

The number of activated, eligible wireless devices on a customer’s account is represented by the number of wireless lines. Multiple wireless lines may exist in a single customer relationship. Customers in specific COVID-19 short-term programs, such as an Internet Essentials campaign for new eligible customers to obtain 60 days of free broadband access, are excluded from customer metrics in 2021 and 2020. This promotional deal for 60 days of free Internet Essentials expires at the end of December 2021. Customers that sign up for this program are not included in the company’s customer metrics until they pay for their service.

Due to a conforming change in methodology, total residential customer relationships and broadband subscribers were revised in the first quarter of 2021, resulting in a drop of about 26,000 customers. Net additions were unaffected, and data for all periods presented have been recast on a comparable basis.

Comcast Corp. has an MVNO deal with Verizon that permits them to offer services over Verizon’s wireless network, and they purchase a considerable number of cellular handsets, tablets, and smartwatches that we sell to wireless consumers from a small number of suppliers.
