CenturyLink is a global technology company. They are engaged in the business of providing a wide range of communication services to its residential and business consumers. These offerings include communications, networking services, security, cloud solutions, voice, and other managed services. Its communication services include local and long-distance voice, broadband, Multi-Protocol Label Switching, private line, Ethernet, hosting, etc.

The business can be divided into 2 segments – Consumer and Enterprise, International and Global Accounts, small and medium business, wholesale, etc. The consumer segment provides strategic and legacy products and services to residential customers, including high-speed internet, video, and wireless services.

Consumer revenue forms about 25% of the company’s total revenue. The consumer revenue for 2019 was about $5.65 billion which fell by 7.6% from 2018’s revenue of $6.12 billion. Within the consumer segment, broadband was the biggest market forming almost 13% of the total revenue. The next biggest market was voice forming 8% of total revenue followed by Regulatory forming 3% and the remaining 1% of the revenue was from other sources.

The consumer revenue from regulatory services was $183 million in the first quarter of 2018. It then increased to $185 million in the second quarter before dropping down to $181 million in the third quarter and $180 million in the fourth quarter. At the start of 2019 revenue went up to $185 million and then saw a huge drop to $158 million in the second quarter and continued to fall to $157 million in the third quarter and $134 million by the last quarter of 2019.

The revenue from Voice was $557 million in the first quarter of 2018. The revenue then declined to $546 million in the second quarter before going up to $565 million in the third quarter and then again dropped down to $505 million by the last quarter of 2018. The revenue then increased to $546 million in the first quarter of 2019 and then started declining quarter on quarter to $477 million in the second quarter, $362 million in the third quarter and then fell down to almost $396 million by the end of the fourth quarter of 2019.

The revenue from Broadband which is the biggest consumer market for CenturyLink was $712 million in the first quarter of 2018. The revenue then started declining and fell down to $705 million in the second quarter, $702 million in the third quarter and then increased slightly to $703 million. The revenue started increasing in 2019, with the first quarter revenue going up to $705 million. Revenue then went up to $718 million in the second quarter and remained unchanged into the third quarter and then increased to $735 million in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Revenue from other sources stood at $117 million in the first quarter of 2018. After the first quarter revenue started declining quarter on quarter and dropped to $105 million in the second quarter, $91 million in the third quarter and $79 million in the last quarter of 2018.The revenue increased in the first quarter of 2019 to $105 million but then started falling steeply to $64 million in the second quarter, $61 million in the third quarter and the last quarter of 2019 saw the revenue drop to $21 million.

2019 was not the best year in terms of consumer revenue for the company, although some positive growth was seen from the broadband service revenue.
