This statistic highlights American Airline’s Revenue by Region starting from FY 2013 to the latest.

American Airlines is an American company and is one of the largest airlines in the world. They operate more than 6,700 flights per day and carry more than 1500 aircraft in their fleet. They serve customers across the world. Their hubs across the U.S operate flight to Asia, Australia, Europe, and many other countries. They have two business segments – mainline and regional. They offer third party domestic services under the brand name American Eagle.

The company’s revenue increased from $40.68 billion in 2018 to $42.01 billion in 2019. More than 90% of its revenue comes from passenger airlines and cargo and other services account for the remaining. Almost 70% of the company’s revenue comes from domestic operations. Asia – Pacific region accounts for 3.5%, the Atlantic region accounts for 11% and Latin America accounts for the remaining.

The revenue from the Asia – Pacific region stood at $1.32 billion in 2013 and then increased to $1.47 billion in 2014 and $1.54  billion in 2015 before dropping to $1.29 billion in 2016 and the revenue from this region started to pick up again and increased to $1.51 billion in 2017, $1.60 billion in 2018 and then dropped slightly to $1.46 billion in 2019.

The revenue from Latin America was around $3.76 billion back in 2013 after which it increased to $5.56 billion in 2014 and then dropped to $5.15 billion in 2015 and the revenue from this region dropped further in 2016 to $3.87 billion and then started to rise and went up to $4.03 billion in 2017, $4.38 billion in 2018, and $4.62 billion by the end of 2019.

The revenue from the Atlantic region for 2013 was $6.29 billion and then went up to $6.96 billion in 2015 before dropping to $5.54 billion in 2015. Revenue from this region continued to drop and fell down to $4.68 billion in 2016 and then went back up to $4.84 billion in 2017, $5.13 billion in 2018 and fell slightly to $5.05 billion in 2019.

As you know the domestic operations are the biggest source of revenue for the company. In 2013 the company’s domestic revenue value was at $15.38 billion. Domestic revenue then shot up exponentially to $28.57 billion 2014 and increased to $28.76 billion in 2015. Revenue dropped marginally in 2016 to $27.20 billion, but has been increasing ever since and went up to $28.75 billion in 2017, $29.57 billion in 2018, and crossed $30 billion by the end of 2019.

From the data, we can clearly see that the domestic services have been the biggest and best-performing segment for American Airlines. The revenue from other regions has been fairly stable with minor variations across years, which should not be a major cause of worry. The company’s revenues are expected to take a hit in 2020. The domestic revenue can still be expected to a turnaround in the second half of the year once the country eases the restrictions on domestic travel. Revenue from international operations is expected to be at a standstill until the end of the year.
