Introduction

Airbus SE is a multination aerospace corporation based out of Netherlands. They design, manufacture and sell civil and military aerospace products worldwide and manufactures aircrafts in the European Union and various other countries. They also make the world’s largest passenger airliner, the A380.

Their business can be divided into the following three segments – Commercial aircrafts, helicopters and defense and space. The Airbus segment focuses on the development and distribution of commercial aircrafts and related services. The helicopter segment is engaged in the manufacturing and development of helicopter and related services. The defense and space segment develop military aircrafts, training aircrafts, missiles, etc.

Helicopter Segment

Order values under the helicopter segment were $11.62 billion in the first quarter of 2016. And, $11.42 billion in the second quarte. Q3 and Q4 showed $11.08 billion and $11.27 billion respectively. Order values for 2017 were $11.39 billion in the first quarter. And, $12 billion in the second quarter. Whereas, Q3 and Q4 showed $11.64 billion and $11.20 billion respectively.  Order value increased in 2018 to $13.18 billion in the first quarter. And, $12.54 billion in Q2, $12.59 billion in the third quarter and $14.94 billion in the last quarter.

Defence and Space Segment

Order value for the defense and space segment was $42.60 billion in the first quarter of 2016. It was $37.67 billion in the second quarter and $38.35 billion in Q3. Finally, $41,50 billion in the last quarter. The order value decreased in 2017 to $39.16 billion in the first quarter. Further, $38.71 billion in the second quarter, $38.55 billion in the third quarter and $37.41 billion in the last quarter. Order value decreased further in 2018 to $37.30 billion in the first quarter, $36.46 billion in the second quarter, $35.88 billion in the third quarter and $35.32 billion by the end of the year.

Helicopter Segment

The order size for helicopters in 2017 was 748 units in the first quarter, 727 units in the second quarter, 710 units in the third quarter and 692 units in the fourth quarter.  Order size for 2018 was 744 units in the first quarter, 694 units in the second quarter, 704 units in the third quarter and 717 units in the fourth quarter. Order size decreased in 2019 to 737 units in the first quarter, 697 units in the second quarter and 681 units in the third quarter.

Defence and Space Segment

Order size in the defense and space segment was 6,740 units in the first quarter of 2017, 6,770 units in the second quarter, 6,690 units in the third quarter and 7,270 units in the fourth quarter. Order size increased in 2018 to 7,190 units in the first quarter, 7,170 units in the second quarter, 7,380 units in the third quarter and 7,580 units in the fourth quarter of the year. Order size for 2019 was 7,360 units in the first quarter, 7,280 units in the second quarter and 7,130 units in the third quarter.

Airbus has had a consistent business model, but the number of orders received might see a huge hit owing to the impact of the coronavirus on the aerospace industry.
